Statefull packet inspection in SuSEfirewall2

Hi, Is it there any way to configure stateful packet inspection rules in SuSEfirewall2 for masquerade networks? When I configure a rule in FW_MASQ_NETS in order to allow traffic from the outside to the DMZ, I also have to configure a rule for responses. Example: Incoming traffic to my web server in a DMZ with private addresses FW_FORWARD_MASQ="0/0,192.168.1.5,tcp,80 I also need to set up the following rules in order to let responses out FW_MASQ_NETS="192.168.1.5/32,0/0,tcp,1024:65535" This rule permits not only established sessions, but additionally it allows my web server to establish connections to the outside world. Dont know why the FW_FORWARD rules are stateful as I want, but FW_MASQ_NETS ones dont. Any suggestion? Is it possible to math the SYN, ACK and FIN TCP bits with SuSEfirewall2? Thanks in advance. APT & RPM signatures

I'm having a problem with apt on suse 10.0. I've install all of the available rpmkeys, but I'm still getting rpms rejected with unrecognised signatures. I've found the sigs in the pgp key servers, and downloaded them, but rpm import doesn't seem to be adding them to the rpm sigs database. rpm -qa rpmkeys-* isn't showing keys with these ids in the list. HELP. What am I doing wrong? Attached are the errors reported, and the two public keys I found and have tried to add to the rpm keys database. Thanks in advance for any help ... David

changing group on /var/log/messages

suse makes the group owner of /var/log/messages root. I was wondering what might break if I changed the group owner to be wheel. hi, i have multiple controllers on my computer: i use two ide channels on motherboard and a pci sil 0680 with another two. kernel wonna see first sil's ide channels, but i would have first ide on MB. what is changed? how can i do this? thanks.... Tolmino

It has to do with how the path is set. So what I do is just close the "SUSE Watcher" window and then I either start up "fou4s" Or "YOU" as root, where "YOU" is "yast on-line update". With fou4s, I use a root shell which I start via a "console" by doing "sux -" and then entering the root password. (by doing "sux -" the path is correct...) and with "YOU" I have an icon on my desktop, and when I click on it it it asks me for the root password. root password as normal user

Hi, I'm a newbie with linux. Using SUSE 9.3 Pro My root user ID and password work fine. When I log in as a normal user, SUSE Watcher alerts me that new updates are available. I click on the check for updates. Because of permissions, I get prompted for the root password. I put in the root password but it says it's invalid. This did work at one time. I know it is good because I can switch users and log in as root with the same password. At one time I renamed my "normal" user ID. The updates still worked though. I have just deleted my normal user and created a new user. This did not help. Other than what I've done thus far, I have no idea where to go next. Sean Everything's easy once you know how

I use suse 9.3 pro on home network. Boxed retail DVD set. Suse firewall. Security updates are current. KDE Konqueror and / or Firefox. Comcast cable internet service provider. No alias. Everyday I am seeing spam email which is a reflection of complex sensitive key word phrases I had typed into google just a few days previously. What are the security implications of this? How do I configure what I have to stop this? What additional measures might be appropriate? Is this spying for commercial purposes or could it be US Government spying? The linux network worm? Aliasing? Fire wall configuration? Stop always connected cable internet and go back to using on demand dialup.? My first reactions are to look into aliasing. Or go back to on demand dialup. But if keystrokes are being detected then there is no security. Very alarming. Thanks to any who can help Martin

Hi list, I use Suse 10 with postfix - amavis-new and clamav. I want to define a spam control policy but I have same problem. First of all if i have a mail that has a score of 5.64 it arrives to the mailbox without adding flags in the header or rewriting subject. Second amavis doesn't do the rbl check. tcpdump problem

Hi list, I am running Suse 10 with the last kernel 2.6.13-15.7-default. I have a problem when running tpcdump i have the following error : # tcpdump -i eth0 tcpdump: socket: Address family not supported by protocol I have the same message with iptraf. In the file /var/log/messages i have found a messages like this : tcpdump uses obsolete (PF_INET,SOCK_PACKET) Can anyone help me. Thanks. Cristian Del Carlo

1. Thanks for the patch and announcement today : SUSE-SA:2006:008 2. There seems to have been a co-ordinated disclosure and release of patches for CVE-2006-0225 on January 25. Why did SuSE (and Debian) not participate in that? Did the other vendors choose not to co-ordinate with SuSE (and Debian) ? 3. I have now avidly read the majorr reports of CVE-2006-0225, most of whom classify it as low priority, and all classify as local. It seems to me, from the reports I read, that it is a local privilege escalation that allows an authenticated scp user to execute arbitrary shell commands, even if they have scp-only privileges. I am not in any way a skilled penetration tester - so I have to make a judgement based on what I read. Have I misunderstood the other reports, or have the other reports got it right, or have SuSE discovered something new that makes it indeed a *remote* vulnerability? David

Said that, I would like to confirm the bug reported from Carlos E.R. about the security update available on YOU to correct a bug of Hylafax. UDP encapsulation in Suse 10?

Hello all, I am successful in setting up IPSec with preshared keys (both transport and tunnel ) using racoon between two Suse Linux 10 machines. I would like to know if there is already UDP encapsualation capability integrated with Freeswan implementation on Suse Linux ( kernel release 2.6.13-15). Because the README files for NAT traversal says, I need to patch up the kernel. Do I have to do it and if yes, where to get the patches from, kindly point me to the right direction. If anyone has any more info, a how to or related info that can be shared, would be very much helpful, thanks and regards, pj

Hello! Is it possible to set up file and folder access auditing on SuSE 9.2 or later (10.0)? If so, how would one do that? I have some sensitive information now on SuSE 9.2 (that might be updated to 10.X) and I'm looking for something similar to what I had in Windows. I have added Guru, Packman and pub/suse/i386/10.0/SUSE-Linux10.0-GM-Extra from SUSE to the installation sources, but none of them seem to have it (well, can't find it with YaST anyways). Does anybody know if it's available from some YaST repository? How about some client? -- HG.

uses of group disk

I would like to give a select number of 'backup operators' -- those who can mount volumes (smb shares) and those who may write to the tape device. Since the tape device is group owned by disk, I'm assuming the proper way to give these backup operators permissions to write to it is by putting them in group disk. What about smbmounting?
