CVE-2006-3738/VU#547300: A Google security audit found a buffer overflow condition within the SSL_get_shared_ciphers() function which has been fixed. CVE-2006-4343/VU#386964: The above Google security audit also found that the OpenSSL SSLv2 client code fails to properly check for NULL which could lead to a server program using openssl to crash. CVE-2006-2937: Fix mishandling of an error condition in parsing of certain invalid ASN1 structures, which could result in an infinite loop which consumes system memory. CVE-2006-2940: Certain types of public key can take disproportionate amounts of time to process. This could be used by an attacker in a denial of service attack to cause the remote side top spend an excessive amount of time in computation. 2) Solution or Work-Around There is no known workaround, please install the update packages. 3) Special Instructions and Notes None. 4) Package Location and Checksums The preferred method for installing security updates is to use the YaST Online Update (YOU) tool. YOU detects which updates are required and automatically performs the necessary steps to verify and install them. Alternatively, download the update packages for your distribution manually and verify their integrity by the methods listed in Section 6 of this announcement. There are two verification methods that can be used independently from each other to prove the authenticity of a downloaded file or RPM package: 1) Using the internal gpg signatures of the rpm package 2) MD5 checksums as provided in this announcement 1) The internal rpm package signatures provide an easy way to verify the authenticity of an RPM package. Use the command rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm> to verify the signature of the package, replacing <file.rpm> with the filename of the RPM package downloaded. [opensuse-security] Conecting from Linux to MS VPN server

Hi all, I am not sure whether this is the right place to ask, but lets try.... In my previous job we use to have a suse linux as default desktop on our machines. Few months ago I have changed my job and I would like to use Linux on my notebook. Unfortunately I can not expect any help from our IT department.... So I have received a working windows xp notebook with preinstalled software on it (including windows vpn client L2TP). I have installed on one part of the hard disk SUSE 10.1 and made a basic setup. In the office all works fine, but since travel a lot a need to access the network via VPN in order to download my emails. Can somebody give me a hint how to proceed? [opensuse-security] Security report from rkhunter on default install of openSUSE 10.2

Hi, is there anybody who can explain the security report generated by rkhunter? At first: default install includes SSHD with remote root login allow, all users remote login allowed, SSH protocol 1 allowed... during install is SSH disallowed, but SSHD runnig after install... At second: after some online updates, I tried to run rkhunter and its reporting invisible /dev/tmpblablabla... and some two other files corresponding with this one... this was too confusing and I killed this by command rm /dev/tmpblabla... I have no idea what it was, but rkhunter reported that system is infected... I have no backup of this, but the machine still runnig and I can make some investigation, but I don't know how to do it. Does the second problem means, that openSUSE 10.2 has security hole in default install and fresh installation can be exploited remotly during/after online update, when making fresh install? Or one of the online repositories includes package with backdoor? Any suggestions? Pavel Chalupa

Hello, there ! I just need any kind of help with mentioned loop-AES's way of encrypting data. It happend that I encrypted ..luckily ?, I don't know .. my super confidential data... but I'm not able now to read it. .... I mean I can't setup encrypted loop device on my files. Hi, after oss10.2 installation i have tried to mount a smb filesystem: mount -t smbfs -o ip=192.168.33.35,username=franky //franky/share /mnt but i have received this message after i have inserted password Suse Kernel don't support smb filesystem!!! If you need to do this as a normal user you should use mount.cifs directly instead of mount -t cifs, and do a chmod +s on mount.cifs, too, just like you had to do on smbmount. For further info, please read "man mount.cifs". Now, why the removal of smbfs isn't mentioned in the relase notes is a mystery. I finally found a comment in the kernel changelog: * ons 30 aug 2006 - gregkh(a)suse.de - Disable CONFIG_SMB_FS CIFS is now the way to go. When i first saw, i thought Novell is giving tested versions of snort add-ons which perfectly works with bundled snort version. But, when i try to configure ACID in SLES9 SP3, i discovered that it is a empty file. Then i immediately look into SLES10, and in SLES10 too those files are empty files. Is it a mistake from Novell/SuSE side ? or is there any reason/purpose ? Hi, Is it possible to restrict certain users to executing only one specific command on the server with ssh? No interactive login should be allowed and no other commands should be accepted. If possible - how? Didn't see any options in sshd_config that looked promising... One think that came to mind is using the shell field in the /etc/passwd file (setting it to some custom script).
