Winbind - sudo

I'm using a new box with Suse 9.2 Pro to authenticate against a NT Domain, i could join the domain, the users login, the homes get created automagically, all seems perfect, BUT, i'm having a little problem with sudo, any time an nt-domain-users run it, sudo prompts for password, and i never accepts it!!. The original /etc/pam.d/sudo file looked like this: ------------------------------------------------------- #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_unix2.so ------------------------------------------------------- Didn't find a Suse specific solution, just a debian base one, now it looks like this: ------------------------------------------------------- #%PAM-1.0 auth sufficient pam_winbind.so auth required pam_unix2.so use_first_pass ------------------------------------------------------ Any ideas? Samba Amavis just stopped working

Hi to all, I experienced a few strange behaviors at our server in the last time. I installed Suse 9.1 and everything worked fine untill a few days. I noticed one time that I don't receive emails and after that I saw that Amavis was down. I mean the process was not running. I looked all over in the logs to find a clue but didn't see anything strange. Today the same happened with samba. The service has just stopped. I also looked in the logs and nothing. With amavis it happened once 2 times a day, with samba only one time, but I see it very strange. Does anyone has a clue??? Any info is welcomed. PS: we have a small network so I excluded the posibility that a user could do it manually. Thank you. Andy.

Hi, is this problem already fixed in the kernels that were announced in SUSE-SA:2004:044? http://www.isec.pl/vulnerabilities/isec-0021-uselib.txt This email claims it has been discussed with Sebastian Kraemer in Dezember already, but it looks like the email is *not* from Stefan Esser, so I'm not sure if the Disclosure Timeline is just faked. While this service is being considered valuable and important to the free and open source software community, many users wish to be sure about the origin of the package and its content before installing the package. Then, compare the resulting md5sum with the one that is listed in the announcement. Since the announcement containing the checksums is cryptographically signed (usually using the key security(a)suse.de), the checksums show proof of the authenticity of the package. We recommend against subscribing to security lists that cause the e-mail message containing the announcement to be modified so that the signature does not match after transport through the mailing list software. Downsides: You must be able to verify the authenticity of the announcement in the first place. If RPM packages are being rebuilt and a new version of a package is published on the ftp server, all md5 sums for the files are useless. 2) rpm package signatures provide an easy way to verify the authenticity of an rpm package. Use the command rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm> to verify the signature of the package, where <file.rpm> is the file name of the rpm package that you have downloaded. Of course, package authenticity verification can only target an uninstalled rpm package file. Prerequisites: a) gpg is installed b) The package is signed using a certain key. The public part of this key must be installed by the gpg program in the directory ~/.gnupg/ under the user's home directory who performs the signature verification (usually root). You can import the key that is used by SUSE in rpm packages for SUSE Linux by saving this announcement to a file ("announcement.txt") and running the command (do "su -" to be root): gpg --batch; gpg < announcement.txt | gpg --import SUSE Linux distributions version 7.1 and thereafter install the key "build(a)suse.de" upon installation or upgrade, provided that the package gpg is installed. UW imap server compiling

Has anyone put together an FAQ on how to compile the UW-imap server with SSLTYPE=unix so the server will accept plain text passwords? I know the issues surrounding secure imap but have a situation where I need to be able to accept plain text passwords internally. I have tried to compile the uw source under SuSE 9.0 and 9.2 but both fail in the c-client section. I have the openssl-devel headers loaded and the imap-devel libraries. What should I be using for SSLDIR or other SSL env variables. I've tried lsu and lnp for system types on the command line. Does SuSE patch the source so much that it is impossible to compile directly from the UW source any more? Thanks, peter

Hi there, I'm just playing a bit with IBM's SSP ( http://www.research.ibm.com/trl/projects/security/ssp/ ) and GCC 3.4.1. Since OpenBSD, Gentoo and others already ship with it, i wonder what do the SuSE security people think about SSP? Will SuSE support it in the future and if not, why? Is SSP really such an improvement as some say it is? regards Malte

Vsftpd and file size restriction

I've come across this several times. Whenever I try to transfer a DVD iso, usually being over 4 gigs in size to my SuSE 9.1 file server, it only transfers 8,152 k and then stops. It transfers all other smaller files just fine. I was wondering if this is a problem with the daemon? or SuSE? or has anyone else come across this? I've got all the security and recommended patches installed, rebooted etc. I've tried it with other files being in the 4 gig range and they do the exact same thing, 8,152 k then skip to the next file, as if it was finished. So its not just this one file. Other info: bulletproof ftp winblows client being used latest version vsftpd set to no anon access, allow 20 for data. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
