Hi folks, maybe someone could give me a hint... I switched from: fetchmail->sendmail->sendmail.milter->Amavis->.forward->procmail->spamc(SpamAssasin)->INBOX which did global virus checking and per user spam checking with Bayes testing to fetchmail->postfix->amavisd-new->perl-spamassassin->cyrus-imapd which does global virus and global spam checking BUT NO PER USER spam checking, so without Bayes testing! :-( So the rate of unreconised spam did increase. I fiddled around with options in the /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf, but they were ignored because amavisd-new calls spamassin via perl interface and takes some SA parameters from the /etc/amavisd.conf (beginning with $sa_). I tried calling a SUIDed cyrus deliver (without SUID deliver hasn't got the right: deliver[3876]: connect(/var/lib/imap/socket/lmtp) failed: Permission denied) to user cyrus via .forward and a .procmailrc. The log said that lmtpd was called, but depending on the syntax of deliver in the .procmailrc the mail was delivered to the INBOX-file in /var/spool/mail or just vanished! One example for my .promailrc: :0 fw |/usr/bin/spamc -f |/usr/lib/cyrus/bin/deliver -e -a david -m user.david and the .forward: "|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #user" Could someone give me a hint using sieve or procmail for a per user SpamAssassin check? While this service is being considered valuable and important to the free and open source software community, many users wish to be sure about the origin of the package and its content before installing the package. There are two verification methods that can be used independently from each other to prove the authenticity of a downloaded file or rpm package: 1) md5sums as provided in the (cryptographically signed) announcement. 2) using the internal gpg signatures of the rpm package. 1) execute the command md5sum <name-of-the-file.rpm> after you downloaded the file from a SUSE ftp server or its mirrors. Then, compare the resulting md5sum with the one that is listed in the announcement. Since the announcement containing the checksums is cryptographically signed (usually using the key security(a)suse.de), the checksums show proof of the authenticity of the package. We disrecommend to subscribe to security lists which cause the email message containing the announcement to be modified so that the signature does not match after transport through the mailing list software. Downsides: You must be able to verify the authenticity of the announcement in the first place. If RPM packages are being rebuilt and a new version of a package is published on the ftp server, all md5 sums for the files are useless. 2) rpm package signatures provide an easy way to verify the authenticity of an rpm package. Use the command rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm> to verify the signature of the package, where <file.rpm> is the filename of the rpm package that you have downloaded. Of course, package authenticity verification can only target an un-installed rpm package file. Prerequisites: a) gpg is installed b) The package is signed using a certain key. The public part of this key must be installed by the gpg program in the directory ~/.gnupg/ under the user's home directory who performs the signature verification (usually root). You can import the key that is used by SUSE in rpm packages for SUSE Linux by saving this announcement to a file ("announcement.txt") and running the command (do "su -" to be root): gpg --batch; gpg < announcement.txt | gpg --import SUSE Linux distributions version 7.1 and thereafter install the key "build(a)suse.de" upon installation or upgrade, provided that the package gpg is installed. Incoming UDP packets on ports 1026 and 1027

Starting around 3:45 am on May 28th, dozens of incoming UDP packets are being dropped per hour on these two ports alone. Usually I woulnd't be alarmed by this, but these packets have an unusual payload size of 777 bytes and both ports are tried. It looks like they are trying to overflow a buffer somewhere. Problems with recent SuSE 8.0 patches

Hi ! I have a problem with the recent kdelibs3 update on my SuSE 8.0 servers. The dependency checking gives me the following error message: error: failed dependencies: kdelibs3 = 3.0.5 is needed by kdelibs3-devel-3.0.5-28 kdelibs3 >= 3.0.3 is needed by kdebase3-3.0.4-76 Does anyone have the same problem ? What is going wrong there ? The last ethereal patch also failed with the error message: error: failed dependencies: libethereal.0 is needed by ethereal-0.10.3-10 libwiretap.0 is needed by ethereal-0.10.3-10 Dear suse people, will this problem be fixed or do I have to live with the older packages ? If the current patch update is attempted on SUSE 8.1, the following message is displayed: error: failed dependencies: libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2.2) is needed by kdelibs3-3.0.5-54 When I attempt to install libstdc++-3.2.2-45.i586.rpm the following message is displayed: file /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 from install of libstdc++-3.2.2-45 conflicts with file from package libstdc++-3.2-36 If I attempt to un-install libstdc++-3.2-36 so that I can install libstdc++-3.2.2-45, the following message is displayed: error: removing these packages would break dependencies: libstdc++ = 3.2-36 is needed by libstdc++-devel-3.2-36 libstdc++.so.5 is needed by unrar-3.00-42 libstdc++.so.5 is needed by xlock-5.03-207 libstdc++.so.5 is needed by yast2-packagemanager-2.6.26-0 libstdc++.so.5 is needed by htdig-3.1.6-49 and approx. 80 more programs are listed. Hello, you can see, that the XP-Box use Port 445 for the connection to the SMB-Server. Port 445 is in use of MS for File-Share since WIN2000 As far as i know, Samba only use 135, 137 ... After a few seconds the XP-Box switch to this ports and trys to connect to the SMB-Server. Have you restricted the interface for samba ?? Try this: Change the IP in the lmhosts file to the 192.168.1.215.. Hello, you don't need a wins-server wen you configured the lmhosts file korrekt. Most of the time, browsing does not work over the VPN. But you can access the Server Press "Start" --> "Run" and then type "\\serverlinux" After a few seconds there apperars a explorer-window with the shares of the server Before you do this, start a shell on the server and use tcpdump: tcpdump -pni [vpn-dev] port 135 or 137 For [vpn-dev] you use the VPN-Device. Hello On 29/04/2004 I asked for the sshd keep alive option of ssh. In that days I used the KeepAlive and ClientAliveInterval without success. Some people told me about other alternatives like ipsec, openvpn., well I have began to use openvpn and it works very fine, I can connect to the vncserver, cvs etc etc now I also want to share my samba volumes through the vpn, but I can reach the samba server. From my windows I try to connect to the server but It´s like there isn´t any samba on the ip Perhaps there is something wrong on my vpnconfig or in my smb.conf file ¿any idea? I run this comand to make the vpn in my windows: "c:\archivos de programa\openvpn\bin\openvpn.exe" --remote SERVER --dev tap --ifconfig 10.4.0.1 255.255.255.0 --verb 3 --secret "c:\archivos de programa\openvpn\config\key.txt" in the linux /usr/local/sbin/openvpn --remote MYPC --dev tap --ifconfig 10.4.0.2 255.255.255.0 --verb 3 --secret key.txt -- Emiliano Sutil García

Trevor, Thanks for your input. I initially built .26, but that failed so I tried .25, which failed as well with the same output. I understand that 7.x is not supported any longer, however I am looking at building my own packages, not getting RPMS from the SuSE gods. Hello, i think this is a Name-Resolution-Problem (WINS) Try to add the name and IP-Adress of the Sambaserver in the LMHOST. You can find this File on the XP-Box under C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc This problem is when ever you have no WINS-Server and the connection allows no broadcast. When a Windows-Computer has no WINS-Server then he try to resolve the Server with broadcasts. Of corse only when he wants to acces to Fileshares (Port 135, 137, ...) . Other IP-Services use DNS. SuSEfirewall2 not routing when both nics on same subnet

I want to do basic filtering of ports without having to masquerade. From everything I have read (including the unofficial guide to SuSEfirewall) the below config should do that. Unfortunately I cannot get the firewall to route to eth1 or anything behind it. I am a noob at this so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Problems with snort and Suse 9.1

Hi, everybody! I tried to get snort run on Suse 9.1 for several days. A 'rcsnort restart' command has an output in /var/log/messages: snort initialization completed succesfully. But there is no logging of portscans, when I proof the program (doing it with www.heise.de). With Suse 9.0, I got lots of alerts, when I visit this site. A 'snort -T snort.conf' has this output: stargate:/etc/snort # snort -T snort.conf Running in IDS mode with inferred config file: ./snort.conf Log directory = /var/log/snort Initializing Network Interface eth0 ERROR: OpenPcap() FSM compilation failed: syntax error PCAP command: snort.conf Fatal Error, Quitting.. I used the original conf-file and also changed files, but in every case it has the same output. Looking for help with google or the list archive did not have a match. Hi : I have a little trouble, i am trying to build a firewall with Snat command, simply because, i must to change my ip to 10.1.X.X when i have one, in the net 172.16.1.X example: 172.16.1.X ----> 10.1.X.X 172.16.2.X -----> 10.2.X.X 172.16.3.X ------> 10.3.X.X I´ve tryied using SuSEfirewall2, but only works with masq. I´ve use the file of custom, and write the next rule, just before masq. iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 172.16.1.0/24 -p tcp -o eth1 -j SNAT --to-source 10.1.1.1-10.1.1.10:1024-32000 but isn´t works, somebody knows how to use SNAT in SuSEfirewall2 ?, because if I try building the rule more general, It filter the packets yet. CVS is broken after last update on SuSE 8.2

I installed the last CVS update on our SuSE 8.2 CVS server last Thursday (May 20). Since then, some users get the error "cvs update: move away <xxx>; it is in the way" when running cvs update. It seemed to be rather machine specific, not user specific (different windows clients, SuSE machine is running pserver). But downgrading to the original version delivered with 8.2 made the errors go away. This is the first time (for me), that a SuSE update broke something rather bad, so I'm confident that this was just a one-time mistake ;-) Is this going to be fixed? It is not really critical at the moment, because the CVS server is an internal machine, but I keep it updated nevertheless. Query - Remote XDMCP Sessions

List, I am mailing this here as I think this problem may be a firewall problem. My rig: Pentium4 running SUSE Linux 8 Standard Server, single integrated network card. I have installed the standard SUSE 8 server installation. I am using the server within a secured corporate network. I managed to get XDMCP working a few days ago (for remote desktop logins to the server). I reloaded the server to change my partitions and now I find that no matter what I do I cannot get XDMCP to work anymore. - I have made the relevant/standard XDMCP changes required. (I have run XDMCP on SUSE before and on Red Hat Linux) - I am using Cygwin32 client on PC. I have used this same installation of Cygwin32 to connect to SUSE before and to connect to Red Hat so I know it works. - I have the firewall disabled on my PC (XP is my OS) - I have disabled the Firewall on the Linux box using YaST2 - I have enabled Remote Graphical Logins in YaST2 (I note that this checkbox always unchecks itself when I return to the YaST2 screen - I assume this is a security related thing). Query: I have noted that SUSE8.0 Standard Server offers a standard server installation and a 3rd party installation option. Is there any difference in the firewalling and the firewalling settings between the two installations? Can anyone offer me any advice? I am going crazy... SELinux in 9.1

Hi, I've found some discussion in March about SELinux in list archives. I'd like to ask about SELinux status in 9.1, since it's already released and I'm considering to purchase it. I have LiveEval and it seems kernel has SEL and boots in permissive mode. Does it have a policy customized for 9.1 so it's ready to boot in enforcing mode and relabel filesystem ? Hello List! I would like to buy a book about wireless lan and it should cover linux and its open source tools such as ipsec, vpn, etc... I have already read "Real world security" by Bob Toxen and "Hacking Linux Exposed 2nd Edition" which i really enjoyed.
