[Generic/Cyrus IMAP] Angriffsmöglichkeit ohne Login-Vorgang

Im IMAP-Server von Cyrus wurde ein Ganzzahlüberlauf entdeckt, der offenbar für anonyme Angriffe gegen den Mailserver genutzt werden kann. Betroffene Systeme * Systeme, die den IMAP-Server von Cyrus in Versionen bis einschließlich 2.1.10 verwenden. * Die 1.x-Versionen sind ebenfalls betroffen. Einfallstor Zugriff auf den IMAP-Server (typischerweise über den TCP-Port 143 bzw. 993 bei SSL/TLS-gesichertem IMAP). Auswirkung Es ist wahrscheinlich möglich, beliebigen Programmcode mit den Rechten des cyrus-Users auszuführen. Dadurch können Angreifer alle Nachrichten lesen, verändern und löschen. Typ der Verwundbarkeit integer overflow bug und dadurch buffer overflow bug Gefahrenpotential hoch Beschreibung Durch einen arithmetischen Überlauf bei der Berechnung der Größe des zu allozierenden Speichers kann es vorkommen, daß der IMAP-Server einen zu kleinen Speicherbereich mittels malloc() anfordert. Der daraus resultierende Pufferüberlauf kann offenbar auf einigen Plattformen (insbesondere auf GNU-libc-basierten Systemen wie GNU/Linux) ausgenutzt werden, um beliebigen Programmcode mit den Rechten des cyrus-Benutzers auszuführen. Dieser Benutzer (und damit ein erfolgreicher Angreifer) kann alle von Cyrus gespeicherten Nachrichten lesen, verändern oder löschen. Die Schwachstelle ist besonders gefährlich, da sie vor der Authentifizierung des Benutzers auftritt. Es sind daher in vielen Konfigurationen völlig anonyme Angriffe möglich. Auf 64-Bit-Systemen scheint eine weitere Schwachstelle zu existieren, die aber durch das geeignete Setzen von ulimit-Prozeßbeschränkungen Schon irgendwelche Lösungen??? IP Accounting beside ipchains/netfilter

Hi list, caused by ppp-connections that come up und down regulary my firewall-rules get flushed each time a connection is established or disconnected. So i cant use the result of ip[chains|table] properly, because flushing rules deletes traffic data for packages like ipac, too. Any other suggestion for tools that analyze traffic for accounting [e.g. iptraf counts fine but the seem to no logs] ? thx in advance Michael ok, a little bit OT, but i know you've got the answer

I downloaded Bastille-2.0.4-1.0, but 8.1 wasn't supported so i got the SuSE version thru YaST (bastille-1.3.0-50). now i got a couple of questions since there's no man file and apparently isn't working correctly. Using Tk user interface module. Only displaying questions relevant to the current configuration. Question sendmaildaemon couldn't be skipped -- couldn't figure out which question to skip to! Could not open config: /etc/Bastille/config, defaults used. Executing File Permissions Specific Configuration Bareword "chkstat" not allowed while "strict subs" in use at /usr/lib/Bastille/FilePermissions.pm line 306. BEGIN not safe after errors--compilation aborted at /usr/lib/Bastille/FilePermissions.pm line 469. Compilation failed in require at /usr/sbin/BastilleBackEnd line 87. since SuSE (UnitedLinux?) support seems to be implemented into future Bastille versions is the available "YaST bastille" a beta or why is there such a big jump between versions? is there's a hardening script for 8.1? i really like harden_suse but it seems to have died(?) /Thomas -- thomas(a)northernsecurity.net thomas(a)se.linux.org

Hello to everybody! I have the following situation on my new DSL-Gate running SuSE 8.0 I installed the first ethernet card as internal device on 192.168.25.1/24 and the external with Dynamic IP on the DSL-device. Booting the system he first finds the DSL0-device and then the ethx-devices, bringing up the result that the ppp0 is bound to the eth0 instead of eth1 as set in Yast and configured. Does anybody know how this problem comes up? The system is a DELL with an onboard 3Com-card and with an PCI-NIC from 3Com. Thank you for your hints in advance. -- Freundliche Grüße kind regards Ingo
