IPchains again

Hello Being completely new to ipchains I've read the howto and not completely understood it. I've been able to do ipchains -P input DENY and that works. Where I've gone wrong is that I've given it the idea that a class C subnet address is the one to watch. That's 192.168.etc.etc. The primary IP address of my ISP is 194.247.47.47. So when I type in the ipchains command I find that I can't view web pages or receive e-mail. If I replace the class C address with my ISPs address does this effectively cut out the work of ipchains ? The other one I want to ask is.. how do I save the ipchains comment so that it loads at bootup ? I am using SuSE 6.2 as a desktop system and my machine is switched off for long periods. proFTP remote exploit?

Hi! acidrain(a)HACKBOX.COM posted a proftpd exploit (buffer overflow, it seems) some days ago (27.8.). Does somebody know of the proFTPd release used in SuSE 6.0/6.1/6.2 are vulnerable to this?
