hamradio packages for SUSE Linux 10.1

Hello, during the last days (and nights) I recompiled all ham radio packages (except tnn) for use with SUSE 10.1. I also added some packages and I am planning to add a few more (like hamlib, xlog, and dream). The installation source for the packages is at: http://dg7gt.osth.de/suse-10.1-ham/ There are packages for i586 and x86_64. Most of the rpms are based on the original ones from Joerg Reuter, DL1BKE. In some cases I had to apply some minor patches to get them compiled on the new SUSE release. I also updated some of the packages to an newer version, for example soundmodem, which is now v0.10 and was v0.1 before (that's really a difference, believe me ). Package kpsk and qgrid were added to the installation source. You can use the above directory as an Yast Installation Source. If you are missing "libax25", please get it from an official SUSE mirror. I recompiled the packages in my spare time, and most of them are untested. But if you find any errors, feel free to contact me, perhaps I am able to correct them. W1NR SUSE 10.1 package problem

If you are running OpenSuSE 10.1, you are probably aware that the package manager and updater is very broken. A patch was released today to fix most of the problems. It requires that you use the YaST Online Update (YOU) to get the new patches. (Zenworks crashes so it can't be used and other issues). If you have my old Hamradio packages for 10.1 or the older 10.0 as an install source, YaST Online Update will crash because there are no "directory.yast" files present. The old 9.3 and 10.0 systems didn't care, but 10.1 does. Also, you can't just go into installation sources and delete it. Again, due to bugs in both YaST and in my original distribution. To get around the issue, go to YaST->Installation Source. When the message appears about using an unsigned package, select NO. There will be another error, so click OK on it. Then select "Finish" and the old Ham Radio package will be gone from the list. YaST Online Update will now run and update itself along with all of the Zenworks files and libraries. I have recreated the package directories and iso images with "directory.yast" entries where they are needed. This now allows you to add an ftp installation source using my ftp site. I also have recreated the iso images. See ftp://ftp.w1nr.net/suse-ham/10.1-i386 for direct installation directory and ftp://ftp.w1nr.net/suse-ham/W1NR-SUSE-10.1-Ham-i386.iso for the iso image. You will know if you are using the new files if my call sign "W1NR" appears in the installation source description. You will also notice after the update that the message about using an "unsigned" source will only appear once, when you set it up and check the "don't tell me again" box. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Also remember that these are a temporary fix for the missing libax25.so file on the CD's and DVD's. There is a libax25.so rpm package if you use an ftp installation source to one of the 10.1 mirrors under "inst-source" directory. 73 de Mike, W1NR

SUSE Linux 10.1 Ham Radio RPM's

With the latest release of SUSE Linux 10.1, the libax25 rpm is no longer shipped on the CD's. This means that the current 10.0 ham radio files will fail dependencies. To solve this temporarily, until Joerg Reuter, DL1BKE has a chance to rebuild the Ham project for 10.1, I have created an installation source and iso image combining the 10.0 Ham Radio rpm's along with the 10.0 libax25 rpm's. The iso is available at ftp://ftp.w1nr.net/suse-ham/SUSE-Linux-10.1-Ham-i386.iso. With this you can create a CD image and use it as an add-on or installation source. Also available is the installation tree at ftp://ftp.w1nr.net/suse-ham/10.1-i386/. I would suggest that you use the iso or copy the directory tree to your local disk and use it from there. My server does not have a lot of upload bandwidth (640k) so be patient it transfers seem slow. I have only done some simple tests so far. It looks like this kernel is working with mkiss again. The new YaST does complain about the archive not being "signed". Getting my personal key into your trusted sources for YaST is not a simple matter, so just ignore the warnings or turn them off. If you have any problems, I'll see what I can do but I guarantee nothing! Use these files at your own risk! 73 de Mike, W1NR

New twlog Release

Hi, There is a new release of twlog available. Twlog is a simple ham logging program intended for basic everyday use. It uses little screen space, has a log editor, automatic call lookup, log searching, and searchable online help. Calls entered in the log are available to other programs (like twpsk). Help needed with Soundmodem setup

I'm running suse 9.0, have a Soundblaster card in my computer in addition to the onboard sound, have a RASCAL interface. It all works in WinXP. I'm trying to get it working in Linux. No luck. I THINK I'm understanding that a person has to use sethdlc to do the initial setup on the soundcard to work with the soundmodem software. I've been trying to follow the Ham How-TO, and have been chasing after setcrystal to no avail. It seems it's been replaced by sethdlc in SuSE 9.0. Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone send me some copies of their sethdlc configurations so I can look at them and compare to mine? I'm about two months into trying to do this, and I'm getting a little tired. echolinux/echogui

Hey HAMs; I am trying to get echolinux/echogui to work. It (echogui) comes up and gets the nodes list correctly. I then select any node and it showsup in the section indicating that it is trying to connect. thats is it. It near connects to any station. Skype VoIP work flawless. Echolinux fails I have tryied "ping 69.151.199.196" which is the IP# shown in echogui. It works.
