As I didn't want to corrupt my working installation I thought it would be a good idea to install grub on an USB-stick. During the installation the setup told me that it was unable to install grub on the stick - permission denied. So I changed to a console and looked for the stick. I found it mounted, but as read-only. So I unmounted it and mounted it once more to the same mount-point but with write permissions. Then I changed back to the installation and clicked the retry-option but without luck. The setup told me once more that it was unable to write grub to the stick. While doing the unmount - mount casually I did an 'ls' on the mounted stick and found all necessary files (config-2.6.22..., initrd-2.6.22..., vmlinuz-2.6.22 .. etc.) but lacking the grub-part. This is what --disable-scrollkeeper sets, and that's why --disable-scrollkeeper does not have any effect on Makefiles that include omf.make. There are basically two ways to fix this: - Get rid of the gnome-doc-utils -> scrollkeeper dependency again. openSUSE 10.2 did not have it! Even with a new home directory, Evolution still does not save the password for my IMAP and my SMTP-Auth server. Everytime I send a message, Evolution asks the password for SMTP. Everytime I close, and restart Evolution, it asks the IMAP server password. If you are installing on this system fedora (6 or higher) or rhel 5 in all cases a new partition table has to be created and you will get partitions like /dev/mapper/pdc_bjfeeibeeb.... If you wish to install openSUSE on such a disk, everything will work except, there is no boot-record written. Same happens on other systems, when dm-raid is used to use a RAID. Both jEdit 4.3pre7 (a programmer's editor -- <http://jedit.org/>) and <oXygen/> 7.2 (an XML editor -- <http://www.oxygenxml.com/>) report "No print service found." when printing is attempted (this is true for both the "Page Setup" and "Print" commands). (Eclipse does not enable its Print command. It's unknown whether this is related.) The symptom appears to be 100% reproducible. There is no perceptible delay in receiving this response. I have configured a remote CUPS printer and can successfully print to that printer from other applications. To reproduce: Launch a Java application that supports printing. Issue its "Page Setup" command (if any) or its "Print" command.
