Hey, I love hermes mails, but I would love them even more if the mails for one request where all grouped in a thread. So here's my completely untested attempt for this (and I'm not sure I'm still fluent in perl, so there might be some stupid errors). Is there any way to easily test this kind of things? I saw your tweets about using Elgg for openSUSE Connect and left a comment on one of your blog posts. Pavol sent me an email and suggested I subscribe to this mailing list. I'm a recent addition to the core Elgg development team. I managed the development for the upcoming 1.7.2 release and have been an active plugin developer. [ This email wasn't sent out due to mailer issues ] Egbert's Week 37 ================ - XDS in Toulouse: The format of XDS has changed from a conference into a group discussion meeting. Very few well prepared talks have been presented, people don't even bother to create slides any more. Slides would give those who cannot participate an idea of what went on. The discussions covered: - input layer: multitouch and gestures - non-root X - how to get DRM back into non-Linux OSes. - review of the development process for the Xserver. - if and which drivers to integrate back into the server. - handling input events in separate threads - this was not held as the presenter didn't return in time from the girl he was chasing. Another presenter was unable to attend at all because his passport has ended up in the laundry. Furthermore I had some discussions about patches I had made recently. - Work on upstreaming some kernel patches that had been made for some enterprise products. [ This email wasn't sent out due to mailer issues ] Egbert's Week 38 ================ - Straighten up my office: I can finally get to my window again and open it, yay! - Attended the Tech Talks on Linux Kongress in Nuernberg: Learned new things about - tracing and profiling - cgroups - memory error handling - porting software to IPv6 There also were interesting talks about virtualization as well as talks about the implementation of a DECT stack and a GSM stack. [amber] - our infrastructure created a new problem every day and a lot of time was spent on getting it up again ;( [green] - discussions around changing factory to sync more often and with less updates. Decided to try some fancy flags - this eats up more of my time, but it may help others. Hi, I apparently forgot to send reports for previous weeks, apologies. What I did during week 36: - openSUSE 11.4: - cleanup default install of GNOME (broken menu, split packages like gnome-search-tool) - fix important bugs in M1 (panel not visible, main menu missing, etc.) - lots of packaging update with pkgconfig() fun to add some GNOME 3 libraries to update gnome-shell - investigate a replacement for gnomesu, mostly focusing on gksu-polkit and pkexec. This is for https://features.opensuse.org/305640. I need feedback from the security team to know what's the best way forward, though. - openSUSE: - openSUSE conference meeting - wrote a pdiff plugin for osc: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-buildservice/2010-09/msg00087.html - upstream: - figured out who goes to the preparation meeting for the Desktop Summit at the end of the month. Happy it's not me - released new version of desktop-file-utils What I did during week 37: - openSUSE 11.4: - updated GNOME to 2.31.92 - openSUSE: - review GNOME legal & security bugs - wrote a changetobranch plugin for osc. Need to send a mail about it, but it's a convenience plugin for when a package is added to Factory, and you need to create a real branch for it. - interview with Henne about openSUSE Conference: http://news.opensuse.org/2010/09/15/osc2010-sneak-peaks-vincent-untz-explai… - GNOME team meeting - review openSUSE board rules, with AJ - openFATE: - started digging in the code again, but quickly stopped because of item below - upstream: - had a nightmare week there: GNOME 2.31.92 more or less destroyed the second half of the week, with many, many build issues. But I finally got it done on Saturday night... - misc: - went to Paris, and discussed a lot with people there, especially with Frédéric Crozat. - went to the doctor for a work visit, and I can work! - got invited to talk about GNOME (and openSUSE!) at the Ubuntu 10.10 Party in Toulouse - pinged people for the desktop track at the linux plumbers conf What I did during week 38: - openSUSE 11.4: - updated many packages - dealt with the 2.31.92 issues that I had left over the week before - fixed a few issues in GNOME to get a polished experience - pushed tons of packages for milestone 2 - openSUSE: - blogged about the openSUSE conference, and talked to various people about it - mail the GNOME team about new packages that got in, and what we can do next - learn more about patterns, to hopefully improve the GNOME ones later - upstream: - wrote a new draft for the GNOME moduleset reorganization. Junior Job sprint

Moin, I just checked in retro the sprint for Junior Jobs and like to know what the current status is. The Junior Jobs are imo very important to give a simple point of entry for anyone wanting to contribute. Imo Junior Jobs should cover: - bugs which are simple to solve - packages for which newer versions are available - packages/applications to be tested - features to work on - docu to be updated or newly written - maintenance And all of that of course should have some documentation so people can learn themselves how to do a task. For the docu part mostly the correct links are needed on the How to participate page [1] I'm poking you as we have the request of Novell India that they will have in a few months many IT students doing the NCLP and are requested by their universities to do some more work on Linux afterwards and openSUSE may take advantage out of this and offer them simple work to start with. And with some luck some of the student stay longer with us. If needed we may have an IRC meeting or as pretty many of you guys are in Nürnberg we meet face to face.
