[patch] 2.4.5 release

Hello, I have applied packet-0.0.2k against Linux-2.4.5 sources, fixed a small reject in arch/sparc64/kernel/ioctl32.c and then generated a diff against plain 2.4.5 sources the patch is at http://www.eax.com/patches/packet-0.0.2k-2.4.5 I have then also ran 'interdiff' on the two above patches and the result is below http://www.eax.com/patches/packet-0.0.2k-2.4.5-pre1-2.4.5 In theory it should show how changes in between pre1 and final release of 2.4.5 have changed the patch. The patch is not tested, I even hadn't tried to compile the stuff, but should at least apply cleanly :) I put it in hopes that someone else find it usefull or at least expedite apperance of the offical patch. PS: this below is a quote from 'patch' man page in the section "NOTES FOR PATCH SENDERS" I think it would be great if it could be followed ------------------------------------------------------------------ If the recipient is supposed to use the -pN option, do not send output that looks like this: diff -Naur v2.0.29/prog/README prog/README --- v2.0.29/prog/README Mon Mar 10 15:13:12 1997 +++ prog/README Mon Mar 17 14:58:22 1997 because the two file names have different numbers of slashes, and different versions of patch interpret the file names differently. Partial Success

Hi all, Partial success report here. I formatted and wrote about 60MB to a CD (quite slow -- lots of: Jun 14 20:28:18 muttley kernel: Device 0b:00 not ready: cmd=0, sector=101320, nr_sectors=32 ) After syncing, unmounting and remounting the CD was unreadable. It's possibly a dodgy CD-RW, though. Anyhow, I reformatted and left it to copy again over night but came back to a hung machine and unreadable CD-RW. I'm running kernel 2.4.5, patched for low-latency (may be a problem?), with packet writing patch 0.0.2l-as. Hardware dual PIII, AIC7xxx, Yamaha 4416 SCSI. I'll go and find some new CD-RWs, but apart from the final hurdle it's looking good here! More testing later... packet-0.0.2l-as2, an incremental release to packet-0.0.2l-as it works (at least should) with kernels 2.4.5 2.4.6-pre1 2.4.6-pre2 Other changes, as from ChangeLog: 0.0.2l-as2 (09/06/2001) - updated FAQ to mention mailing list archives - renamed patches and updated install instructions to include only kernel version the patch is against. No point to inclue patch version in file name as it is defined in the files pktcdvd.c and udf_fs.h already - removed changelog from pktcdvd.c and prepended to ChangeLog file - removed todo notes from pktcdvd.c and put it into TODO file. - updated pktcd version to 0.0.02l-as2 in pktcdvd.c - updated INSTALL notes, and mention what kernel it works with. more tech details: there's a new patch for packet for 2.5.6-pre2 as old one would not apply cleanly. if you are curious what change you can use interdiff -p1 packet-2.4.5 packet-2.4.6-pre2 but it is just basically some stuff moved around you don't apply udf patch for 2.5.6-pre2 anymore as it comes with UDF 0.9.4 which is more recent than what used to be distributed with packet-writing package. -- Adam http://www.eax.com The Supreme Headquarters of the 32 bit registers

As for the porting of udf module to ac-kernels, I had submitted a patch to the sourceforge linux-udf page, you can also have a look at that. Hello: Can anyone help me on how to apply the 0.0.2l-as patch onto the 2.4.5-ac9 kernel please? I currently use 2.4.5-ac9 with Axboe's block-highmem-ac-4 patch and Hedrick's ide-all-06062001-ac9 patch applied. Thanks.
