Hi all, Partial success report here. I formatted and wrote about 60MB to a CD (quite slow -- lots of: Jun 14 20:28:18 muttley kernel: Device 0b:00 not ready: cmd=0, sector=101320, nr_sectors=32 ) After syncing, unmounting and remounting the CD was unreadable. It's possibly a dodgy CD-RW, though. Anyhow, I reformatted and left it to copy again over night but came back to a hung machine and unreadable CD-RW. I'm running kernel 2.4.5, patched for low-latency (may be a problem?), with packet writing patch 0.0.2l-as. Hardware dual PIII, AIC7xxx, Yamaha 4416 SCSI. I'll go and find some new CD-RWs, but apart from the final hurdle it's looking good here! More testing later... Hi,
Jun 14 20:28:18 muttley kernel: Device 0b:00 not ready: cmd=0, sector=101320, nr_sectors=32 )
That sounds very much like the problem I've had. (I reported it a while ago.)
Hardware dual PIII, AIC7xxx, Yamaha 4416 SCSI.
Same HA and drive too. Also, I used to use a SMP system, but I tested it on one processor and the problem was still there, so it's not MP-related. (I've since upgraded to a fast Athlon after a catastrophic motherboard failure: 3-minute kernel compile - wow!) I'm planning to test the drive with another controller, though, to see if that's anything to do with it. Nice to know that it's not just my hardware causing it, though. Stephen

No, as I've written about one month ago, on quite different hardware (K6-2 300, TEAC CD-W54E, ATAPI) it is just the same. The interesting point to me is that it also happens to both ATAPI and SCSI system. rm
