Thank's for Your reply Dyson. My Box is a SuSE 8.2, kernel 2.4.21 with suse patches. I have already installed dvd-packet patches from this site http://www.pond-weed.com/dvd.html and like the Author i have an NEC 1300A. All works fine. (I can packet write CD-RW and DVD+RW, but DVD-RW doesn't work.) Probably, I have to wait for a DVD-RW path ... New patch for 2.4.22 (and 2.4.23-preX)

I have uploaded a new patch for kernel 2.4.22 and 2.4.23-preX: http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/2.4/packet-2.4.23-pre8.pa… Changes since last version: - Added Documentation/cdrom/packet-writing.txt file. - Updated udf from sourceforge cvs. - Removed unnecessary FLUSH_CACHE command from ide-cd.c. It is not necessary, and some broken LG CD-ROM units get damaged by the FLUSH_CACHE command. (Apparently they interpret the command as a firmware upgrade command.) format cd-rw with win, read/write with cdrecord?

I found that the only way I could use my DVD-RAM under Linux and DOS (via Win98 or dosemu) was to use Win98 to format it, because Panosonic was not up to writing a Linux format program (yet!). Now I can read/write under linux/dos as if it were a hard drive. Is the same thing possible for CD-RW? How about if I use cd-record to write to it, with the packet option. Doesn't work at all with 2.6.0-test7

This is the first time I try it with the 2.6 patches. I got a /dev/pktcdvd directory with entries from 0 to 7, and tried pktsetup with all. Problem with kernel 2.6.0

Has anyone encountered this? I format a disc which goes fine. Then I drag and drop files. So I can write and delete etc. from the disc. Some time ago the problem of data corruption while copying many small files to a CD-RD disk was discussed. Packet writing - Redhat Enterprise Linux Workstation 2.1 and a Sony DRU-510A!

Hi, I'm trying to setup packet writing with a Sony DVD+RW drive on Redat Linux. I'm a little confused as to which patches/packages should be applied. To that end, I'm also have trouble applying a kernel (little bit of a Linux novice). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob Campbell

latest udf-cvs + pktcdvd

Did anyone try this combo? I've been using it on 2.4.22-ac4 and 2.4.23-preX-pacX for more than a week and I didn't hit the file corruptions I had before (udf cvs version 0.9.8-cvs 2003/10/01, plus Peter's 2.4.22-patch). I didn't test it "heavily" though. Can any of the other guys having the issue test it? Regards, Özkan Sezer
