hi i try to do packet writing under linux (suse 10) in fstab i have /dev/dvdram /media/dvdram subfs fs=cdfss,rw,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,users,gid=users,umask=0002,iocharset=utf8 0 0 modprobe pktcdvd modprobe udf cdrwtool -d /dev/dvdram/ -q pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/dvdram i get ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device linux:/var/lib/rpm # ls -ls /dev/pktcdvd* 0 crw-rw---- 1 root root 10, 62 2005-10-26 23:59 /dev/pktcdvd 0 --wx---r-- 1 root root 0 2005-10-27 00:11 /dev/pktcdvd0 any idea? thanks

hi i have a dvd-burner and suse 10 i'm interested to burn cd-rw, dvd-rw, dvd+rw, dvd-ram in fstab i have /dev/dvdram /media/dvdram subfs fs=cdfss,rw,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,users,gid=users,umask=0002,iocharset=utf8 0 0 with lsmod, i can see udf and pktcdvd how to be able to use dvd-rw, dvd+rw, cd-rw and dvd-ram like a hd? maybe there is a special thing to do for dvd-ram? does only the root can use the dvd-rw, dvd+rw, cd-rw and dvd-ram like a hd or any user can do it? thanks

I have SuSE 9.3 too: linux:~ # rpm -q udftools udftools-1.0.0b3-1 linux:~ # uname -r 2.6.11.4-21.9-default And I Added this lines in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules, because when i loaded the kernel module the udev didn't create the directory in dev KERNEL="pktcdvd", NAME="pktcdvd/control" KERNEL="pktcdvd[0-9]*", NAME="pktcdvd/pktcdvd%n" but it only created one file: linux:~ # la /dev/pkt* total 178 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 72 Oct 21 03:33 . drwxr-xr-x 36 root root 182064 Oct 21 03:33 .. crw-rw---- 1 root root 10, 62 Oct 21 03:33 control then i manualy created a device file: linux:~ # mknod /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd b 62 10 linux:~ # mknod /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 b 62 10 linux:~ # ls /dev/pktcd* . .. control pktcdvd pktcdvd0 And i tried to setup the packet association: linux:~ # pktsetup pktcdvd0 /dev/hdd ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device linux:~ # pktsetup pktcdvd /dev/hdd ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device Rebeca
