Go here-

I have that file installed already. But thanx. --doug
You have that driver already installed but you still cannot print? The driver specifically states that it works with the WP4530.
Just out of curiosity, did you install the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of the driver?
Oh, and how did you install the *.RPM?
I don't remember for sure, but I usually install an rpm by apt-get install filename.rpm (all on one line) I would certainly have installed the 64 bit version. later, from another post, which I can't locate, I was told to get this: imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm.tar.gz so I did tar -xzvf imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm.tar.gz and got an rpm file, as expected, but it has trouble installing: [CODE] apt-get install imagescan-3.59.2-1epson4opensuse15.1.x86_64.rpm Specified local path does not exist or is not accessible. you were previously advised that the leap 15.1 rpm would work on tumbleweed. and you were provided *explicit* instructions on installing and testing it. do you choose to "go your own way" even after requesting help here? you must remember that we are donating our time and efforts to assist you and those are completely waisted if you do not attempt them and provide appropriate feedback. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I was told to download an Epson file for OpenSUSE 15.1 and it would work fine for Tumbleweed, and that's the file I downnloaded and tried to install. I DO appreciate the efforts of all who try and straighten me out. I've been with Linux for about 15 years, but I'm not familiar with the present version of OpenSUSE, and I don't know it's capabilities, and how to use some of them. Perhaps leap15.1 is the OTHER OpenSUSE version? I have decided to use an LTS revolving version--Tumbleweed-- because I do not wish to have to reinstall every so often. This version of Tumbleweed is up-to-date as of a couple of days ago. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Wow! Tumbleweed is NOT and LTS, but the reverse! It is a rolling release, using the newest packages from the development trees, just after they consider stable, so it is where most bugs are found. TW is where new "things" are developed and tested! If you want an LTS, please format and install Leap 15.1 instead. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I suppose I misused the term--I DO want the rolling release, so hopefully I never have to take down the system and reinstall for an up-to-date version. That's why I chose Tumbleweed. I think the Leap version is only good for a couple of years at a time. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

afaik, it works on debian/*butu/deritives. it work on openSUSE but whether it is the best tool for openSUSE if debatible. BUT, zypper (and yast) are made for openSUSE and are the best tools for it. If you intend to continue on openSUSE, you should learn one or both. I prefer zypper and it is easy and documented and similar but different than the apt-*** applications which are tuned to use zypper. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is not the best tool to use on openSUSE, it is not designed for openSUSE. If you find an error, like now, me for instance can not help with apt-something.

Thanx, everybody. I give up. I followed the instructions for install.sh as best I could, and it seems to have installed, BUT if I try and run iscan, I get a segfault. I got two of the three programs installed, but install.sh could not install the third one, for some reason. I just give up on this routine. I have to say that one of the things that PCLOS worked well for, was this, and Suse is just a bitch in this case. Whoever runs this OS should really strive to fix this. There is nothing wrong with "Suse" -- the problem is with the user who installed Tumbleweed and not Leap. As the web page states, "Tumbleweed is recommended for Developers, openSUSE Contributors, and Linux/FOSS Enthusiasts." while "Leap is recommended for Sysadmins, Enterprise Developers, and ‘Regular’ Desktop Users.". Are you a "Developer", or an "openSUSEContributor", or even a "Linux/FOSS Enthusiast"? I will say it one more (and last) time: install Leap15.1. As I mentioned in another post, AFAIK, apt-get install works in any linux, including Ubuntu and PCLOS. It has worked upt to now in Tumblewweed, perfectly. All Leap 15.0, 15.1, 15.2, 15.3... will have the same API. Same basic kernel and libraries and daemons. Everything should keep working. Update is almost trivial. I have never had to reinstall SuSE/SUSE/openSUSE fresh since about year 2000. The only work is when replacing the computer. You have the wrong idea about Leap. I think, Basil, you have my best interests at heart, but I believe that Suse would not be making Tumbleweed unless it wanted a rolling release, which is what I want. I've fiddled around with Linux versions that expire every so often, and I don't want to get trapped in one of them. It's a real pita to go out and find and get and reinstall all the things you are used to using, including your screen background, particularly if you find that those apps are no longer available, as PCLOS did to me. That's why I'm trying to get used to this Tumbleweed version, which I hope to be running until I die. (I'm almost 82 right now.) I sincerely hope that what is working now, will work for the rest of my life without reinstalling anything, and I hope that I will get the scanner running, even if I have to buy the app. Or use Windows--achhh! --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Doug, I will repeat it once again: you have the wrong idea about Leap. I gave you an URL to read about what how easy it is to upgrade from one version of Leap to the latest -- have you read what is stated there? In any case, one does not have to upgrade Leap everytime a new version comes out (around 18 months) but keep using what you already have. There are people here who are still using openSUSE 42.3 which was released in July 2017. Now, the EOL for Leap 15.1 is November 2020. You cannot tell me that you won't be able to get to grips on how to easily upgrade 15.1 to 15.2 by November 2020? BC -- A three-year-old boy was examining his testicles while taking a bath. That will not happen within Leap 15.*. It may when change to Leap 16, which is long ahead, after Leap 15.3 probably.

linux-4qnb:~ # zypper -v in /home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm Verbosity: 2 Non-option program arguments: '/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm' '/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm' looks like an RPM file. Will try to download it. Problem retrieving the specified RPM file: Path '/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm' on medium 'dir:/home/doug/Downloads' is not a file. Please check whether the file is accessible. Problem with the RPM file specified as '/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm', skipping. No valid arguments specified.
Now what? AFAIK, EVERYTHING I ever downloaded came out without error. Shall I try again? There is no check for this file.
then /home/doug/Downloads is not where the rpm file is. The "zypper ..." command I gave you expects to find the file in the path you provide. A 15 year linux user should be able to provide the path where a file is located. If you are unable, you will not be able to install it.
If I do a cd /home/doug/Downloads and run ls -la I get a whole list of files including the decrypted rpm file. However, if I do NOT cd to my Downloads directory and run the command suggested, this is the result: linux-4qnb:~ # ls -la /home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm total 16 drwxr-xr-x 1 doug 1000 62 Aug 20 02:34 . drwxr-xr-x 1 doug users 1938 Aug 30 15:19 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 doug 1000 5378 Aug 20 02:34 README.rst drwxr-xr-x 1 doug 1000 94 Aug 20 02:34 core -rwxr-xr-x 1 doug 1000 7392 Jul 31 03:36 install.sh drwxr-xr-x 1 doug 1000 380 Aug 20 02:34 plugins
If you open dolphin, the file browser, and right-click on the rpm image, imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm the window which opens will tell you the file location "Location:"
that is what you need to provide for zypper to operate correctly.
please provide the output for: ls -la /home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm
the command above is one line and will probably wrap in transit, so you need to invoke it as a single line
Have discovered a number of things: Apparently, the above are directories, each one containing at least one .rpm file, and one of them will not install at all. I have to say that this is a cockamamie way to distribute software. Anyway.... Also, it appears that iscan is actually installed on the system, but it doesn't work. From a user console--typed in by hand since I can't copy and paste it: doug@linux-4qnb:~> iscan Segmentation fault (core dumped) I don't know how it got installed, since I have had no luck, so I must assume that it comes with Tumbleweed. In that case, is there a way to reinstall the whole iscan system from whatever repo it may be in from scratch? Maybe then it might work. I'm in way over my head, here! it's a good idea to check what files you have at hand before trying a command line invocation. * first check is the rpm was really extracted from the archive and where. "ll" is your friend, it's the openSUSE alias for "ls -l" if you do so you will notice that the iscan bundle do *not* extract as a rpm file, but as *a folder* in this folder you will find an "install.sh" script that install *three* rpm, available in the subfolders "core", "data" and "plugins" so, everybody calm down, the mess come from the ridiculous idea from epson to name the folder like a rpm... jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not getting anywhere fast. Here's the latest, which I hope I've done as requested, but no cigar: In case 'in/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm' is not a typo it's probably not a built-in command, but provided as a subcommand or plug-in (see 'zypper help subcommand'). In this case a specific package providing the subcommand needs to be installed first. Those packages are often named 'zypper-in/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm' or 'zypper-in/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm-plugin'. linux-4qnb: -bash: zypper-in/home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm: No such file or directory One reply suggests that the file contains further rpms. I don't know how to work with that--it's a new one to me--but if I can't get it to decode the main rpm, then I seem to be stuck.

Isn't the path "/home/doug/Downloads"? I don't know a path where it should PUT the results--that should be in the rpm itself. Also, it complained about no hyphen in "zypper in" so I put in a hyphen. Tried with and without a space before the/home/doug/Downloads path, but it doesn't like it: linux-4qnb:/home/doug/Downloads # zypper-in /home/doug/Downloads/imagescan-bundle-opensuse-15.1-3.59.2.x64.rpm If 'zypper-in' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this: cnf zypper-in Also tried "zypper in" without the hyphen and it didn't like that either. Do I need to put the word "to" in front of the path, and does it need the /to/ in it? Or is that just an illustration? I'm running out of things to try. Doug, you are repeating the same behaviour you exhibited when you were last here some years ago and were running earlier versions of 'SuSE'. Leap is more like the 'SuSE' you knew in the past and you will also get more responses to your hassles because most people are using Leap and Tumbleweed.
