It is not the best tool to use on openSUSE, it is not designed for openSUSE.
If you find an error, like now, me for instance can not help with apt-something.

Please stick to YaST (GUI) or zypper (CLI) or (last resource) rpm. And perhaps the packagekit applet of the desktop of your choice.
If people here gave you exact instructions to use with zypper, please just follow them.

How did you manage to install it if you are running Tumbleweed?! I couldn't install it so what magic did you use to get it installed? :-)
BUT if I try and run iscan, I get a segfault. I will scan from a different computer--even from Windows if necessary, and hand-carry the result over to this machine if it needs to be worked on. Or maybe the Vuescan folks can get a system working--I'm not afraid to pay for it. Thank you for your patience. I have never had this kind of experience before. --doug
Vuescan is magic! Works with some 6000 models of scanners.
