Help: How to run 32 bit applications on SuSE 8?

We need have our 32-bit linux application running on 64-bit machines. Due to some third-party limitations, we cannot build this application on 64-bit machines natively. Thus we'll be using the '32-bit compatibility mode'. But our 32-bit application cannot be run on SuSE 8.0 ia64 system with kernel 2.4.21-273-itanium2. It has no problem to run on SuSE 9 ia64. Does someone know how to run 32-bit applications on SuSE 8 ia64? If 32-bit glibc is needed, could you please point me where to get it? Thanks!

Hello, I use SuSE 9.2, with all known updates, on a HP-DL360 G4, which emulates a 64bit processor system. The freeradius-package that comes with SuSE does not work on this system - it fails on loading libraries at start-up: Module: Library search path is /usr/lib/freeradius radiusd.conf[1367] Failed to link to module 'rlm_exec': rlm_exec.a: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I have tried SuSE 9.2 on a 32bit system, and there the freeradius-server that comes with SuSE works well. Since the freeradius-package that comes with SuSE9.2 does not seem to work on 64bit architecture, I decided to compile the newest freeradius-1.0.1. It fails during compile in gcc .libs/radiusdS.o -g -O2 -D_REENTRANT -D_POSIX_PTHREAD_SEMANTICS -DOPENSSL_NO_KRB5 -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE -g -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-qual -Wcast-align -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wnested-externs -W -Wredundant-decls -Wundef -I../include -DHOSTINFO=\"\" -DRADIUSD_VERSION=\"1.0.1\" -o .libs/radiusd radiusd.o files.o util.o acct.o nas.o log.o valuepair.o version.o proxy.o exec.o auth.o timestr.o conffile.o modules.o modcall.o session.o xlat.o threads.o smux.o radius_snmp.o client.o request_list.o mainconfig.o -Wl,--export-dynamic -L/root/freeradius/freeradius-1.0.1/src/lib -lcrypt -lnsl -lresolv -lpthread -lcrypto -lssl /root/freeradius/freeradius-1.0.1/src/lib/.libs/libradius.so /usr/lib/libltdl.so -ldl -lcrypt -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/freeradius /usr/lib/libltdl.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation an my guess is that this happens because the compiler uses "/usr/lib/libltdl.so" instead of "/usr/lib64/libltdl.so". I can manuallu run the command with a pointer to the 64-bit catalogue - and this works fine.. Now I have to figure out how to tell GCC to use the 64bit-version of the libltdl. And here I am lost. pthread differences

On SLES 64 there are two versions of the library libpthread.a - /usr/lib64/libpthread.a & /usr/lib64/nptl/libpthread.a. What's the difference? I'm guessing the later maybe implements the Native POSIX Thread Library while the former uses what? ? (LinuxThreads?, Next Generation POSIX Threads?). Rgds, Simon

multiple processors

I've acquired a computer with four AMD Opteron CPU's on a Celestica motherboard. I've installed Suse 9.0 but I don't believe that the installer recognizes the existence of multiple processors. I advise going to 9.1 or the recent release of 9.2 for a new install. suse will install the proper smp kernel automatically just continue with your install and when you are done it will show that the smp kernel is being used. do a "less /proc/cpuinfo" to see a least of all CPUs in the system. SuSE Linux on HP ZX2000 installaton problem

Hello. I'm trying to install SuSE 7.2 on a brand new HP ZX2000 Itanium2 Box. When I start elilo in order to set up the installation, the boot-procedure is interrupted due to the folowing error: fs0:>elilo <CR> Searching for USB Keyborard... Keyboard found. Searching for USB Mouse... Mouse found. ELILO: linux Uncompressing linux ... bootparam.c(51) bootparam @ 0x<Some Registeraddress> After this i can reset the machine. I've already checked the Iso-Image of the Installation CD but it is ok. Can anyone help ? regards, daniel

Does SuSE SLES 8.1 for IA64 plan to provide compatibility packages for compiling source code with older gcc/g++ compilers (I mean, gcc/g++ 2.96 or 2.95) ? If so, these packages will be available in beta releases ? Thanks, Rita.

We will be building a site that has ia64 systems for directory services, and several 32bit blades will need to mount data exported from the ia64 servers.
