Help: How to run 32 bit applications on SuSE 8?
We need have our 32-bit linux application running on 64-bit machines. Due to some third-party limitations, we cannot build this application on 64-bit machines natively. Thus we'll be using the '32-bit compatibility mode'. But our 32-bit application cannot be run on SuSE 8.0 ia64 system with kernel 2.4.21-273-itanium2. It has no problem to run on SuSE 9 ia64. Does someone know how to run 32-bit applications on SuSE 8 ia64? If 32-bit glibc is needed, could you please point me where to get it? Thanks!

For SLES 8 you need to install the packages glibc-x86 and baselibs-x86 to get some basic libraries for running ia32 programs. AAQA77:~ # rpm -qa |grep glibc
glibc-2.2.5-233
glibc-x86-2.2.5-25
glibc-devel-2.2.5-233
glibc-locale-2.2.5-233
AAQA77:~ # rpm -qa |grep baselibs
baselibs-x86-8.1-10
AAQA77:~ # uname -a
Linux AAQA77 2.4.21-273-itanium2-smp #1 SMP Mon Jan 17 12:45:04 UTC
2005 ia64 unknown
Looks like the 2 packages have been installed. But the issue still
exists. Any idea?
Thanks,
