Problems NIC and HP server

Hello, having problems with HP rx4610 server and the built-in NIC, lspci reports it as: Intel Corporation 82557 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 08) Using the eepro100.o module and the 2.4.4 SMP Kernel that came with SuSE 7.2/ia64, the network isn't working at all, until I switch the NIC to promiscuous mode, then a few packets will work in both directions and tcpdump crashes with SEGMENTATION fault. mii-tool reports the link would be fine, even if I needed to force the speed settings, which were 100HD, but the router (cisco catalyst) is set to 100FD, but it doesn't change the above behavior. I'll compile 2.4.17 and perhaps apply the ia64 patches from kernel.org soon or has someone other suggestions/expirience, he would like to share? Thx for your time Michael Heiming

KDE Problem?

I Installed SuSE 7.2 on a HP i2000 workstation, with NVidia Quadro Pro2 graphics adapter. The Installation went smoothly but when starting the service KDM the computer hangs (monitor in standby). Textconsole is working properly, sax2 can be started. Driver for the graphics is nv, starting X (typing X in console) starts the grey X screen but starting KDM from console results in crash. Problem with monitor/graphics

I Installed SuSE 7.2 on a HP i2000 single processor machine. The graphics-adapter (Nvidia Quattro Pro) was detected and the nv driver installed. But the Monitor (HP p1130) was not selectible in the sax menu. Obviously The Monitor was misconfigured, everytime X is started (screen output:starting service kdm) the monitor turns off (standby) and the machine hangs (hardware reset needed). Is there a way to stop X from starting and getting a root console to start sax again (cntrl-alt-F1-4 doesn't work)? Sincierly, Jan -- Jan-C. Question on partition types

As far as understood from this mailing lists archive the /boot partition needs to be of the vfat type. Is this still correct?
