Image checksum fails due to writing image to wrong device.

Hi everyone! I was about to try out the new image when i got the checksum failed after the image had been extracted on my eeepc. When i pop my usb stick back in to another computer i noticed that theres a new partition on it? The installer gives me /dev/sda as the only alternative, but its seems like the image is extraced to the usb drive instead of the netbook one. Hi Jan, Unfortunately that is indeed the case. We are working on a live installable image, but it isn't quite ready yet. A vary loose workaround is to install the image to either an SD card or another USB stick. You would need at least 4GB but more would be better. odd openSUSE / Moblin live image issue ...

Hi Marcus, Any idea how to debug the build problems with: Moblin:Images/Image-opensuse-live ? I do a: osc build --clean --no-verify openSUSE_11.1 i586 suse-moblin-rescue.kiwi and ... it fails, but without any particularly obvious errors - which is odd :-) "Running build " <nothing> ... We use the latest Virtualization:Appliances repo, and we try to build vs. the isoboot/suse-11.2 target (with an 11.1 system) - I forget why, prolly to avoid aufs or somesuch. hal in Moblin:Base for openSUSE:Factory broken

I tried fixing the hal version in Moblin:UI so that it builds on openSUSE:Factory but failed miserably, the problem are the lib/lib64 changes. We need to get this one working so that x86-64 packages build for Factory. Could somebody look into it? Or could we update to the Factory version of hal - or would that break 11.1 based builds? Goblin on PentiumM

Hi, I am new on the list, but hope I can help in some way along the journey. I have an Asus R2Hv which has a PentiumM processor - it does not have SSE3 support (only SSE2). Can I install one of the images for the eee701 and then add the Moblin repositories? Also, which Xorg is being used? I tried this machine with the standard 11.1, but Xorg fails on the intel driver. It seems a fix has been made upstream, but isn't available in Xorg 7.4. The R2Hv has an Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML graphics controller with a 7" 800x480 display. Is there a live image I can try before installing? Greg, Yes they should and will be. I'm currently trying to get the 1Click pattern sorted, and the last thing todo is try and find a way of not having the user go through and choose dependency resolution options. Ideally this would be taken care of. Once that is done I'll remove the 1Click from the :UI repo and see if we can get it added to the :Factory one. Installing the image to an already installed system

Could someone advise as to how one can install the image to an already installed system? At the moment if one has a vanilla openSUSE or Goblin installed the image installer exits complaining that the system is already installed. The only way I can install a new image is to install some crud like UNR and then install Goblin, not ideal by any stretch of the imagination. New openSUSE Goblin image created

I've created a new openSUSE Goblin image and put it up on the forgeftp.novell.com site: http://forgeftp.novell.com/moblin/raw/ I'm currently running this on my laptop, and it looks good. If anyone has any problems with it, please let me know. Also, if anyone wants me to create new images based on the state of the tree at any time, just ping me and I can do it. I don't know if it's worth doing nightly builds just yet. Merge status with factory?

Hi Goblin Team, I've heard from Rudi that you have added a couple of packages from Factory but some of the changes were not merged back to factory. This makes it rather complicated to integrate with factory and deliver a Moblin UI on openSUSE since it might break other applications using the same libraries. Is there any chance to merge back your changes with factory to minimize the differences? Hi Peter, No it's not a local issue but is intentional. Remember Moblin is aimed at netbooks and there are no netbooks with optical drives. To use the .raw file you need to 'dd' it to a USB stick and then boot from that. I would recommend using the .raw file found in KIWI-oem as it it will fit on a 2GB stick, and is designed as a recovery image. Be warned though that you will have no partitioning option, and you will loose all data when you install it. Hello, During the installation of Moblin, there were no repos added. How should I add the repos, if: - I want to install additional packages from OSS (joe, my favorite text editor) - I want to install additional packages non-oss, like flash player - want updates, so my installation is secure - I would like to stay up-to-date with moblin packages - and of course use 'zypper up' Would the following setup make sense? priority / URL 10 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Moblin:/Base/openSUSE_11.1/ 10 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Moblin:/UI/openSUSE_11.1/ 20 http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.1/ 99 http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/ 99 http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/non-oss/ Or I need something more special? Moin all, I'd like to ask you guys if, what and how we should provide Moblin to openSUSE users? We see Moblin gets high attention and with Goblin Andrew already based a version of Moblin on openSUSE and it is appreciated by the users. I heard the request to add Moblin to our major distribution (maybe considered for openSUSE 11.3) and offer it with our "desktop selection" page. So what would such an Moblin desktop add in space to the DVD? (as the DVD is already pretty crowded) Others are asking for a seperate Moblin image for each stable openSUSE release. So please let us know your opinion if and how to integrate Moblin with openSUSE? Compiz works very well. KDE4 effects instead, fail to starts. theming questions

Howdy! I started working on some theming fixes but have a couple of questions on how to get them incorporated into our builds. First an overview of what I'm working on: icons ===== I'm filling the gaps in the icon theme. These changes go mostly directly upstream to git.opensuse.org. gtk+ ==== The gtk theme has a number of issues I kinda-sorta-almost worked around. * Menus broken in OOo and Firefox. The menubar items aren't matched and are almost invisible as both the background and foreground are light. As I'm not aware of a way to special-case in those two applications I worked around the issue by making the menus also dark so that the foreground color of the menuitem is light and thus applied on the menubar as well. Both of these apps still look ugly wrt hover/PRELIGHT state of the toolbar buttons. * Selection/tint color is SUSE-ish green instead of blue. * There was a HUGE contrast between the toolbar/menus and regular app widgets. These is no contrast between editable widgets and regular backgrounds. Made the main bg color darker (#e2e2e2). This also makes the tabs look less odd as the gradient continues onto the flat surface below. * Entry widgets were raised like buttons. It felt weird. Not sure if the engine allows an inset style applied so I've at least flattened the entries for now. Cursor Theme ============ I would kinda suggest to go with DMZ AA as it allows to have the cursor scaled up a bit. Might be handy for the tiny netbook screens. Style-wise it's very close to the netbook theme. I'll see about replacing the wait cursors to use the new moblin spinner. WM Theme ======== * Using some colors from gtk rather than having them hardcoded. * Mimic the close button from anjal/web browser behavior. Wallpapers ========== * Apart form the stripy one I have 3 more abstract wallpapers for consideration as a default. My question is how to best get all these changes into our builds? ANNOUNCE: build service workflow, public daily build snapshots

Hello fellow Goblins! I have been working on implementing and documenting a new workflow for maintaining and building the openSUSE Moblin (Goblin) distribution. On Monday we had our first successful image build using this new workflow. The new workflow builds on exactly the same practices used throughout the base openSUSE distribution project, and adapted by most devel projects in the build service, so it should be familiar to community members already working in openSUSE. This is just a first draft, and I'm sure there's a lot to clarify, and maybe a little to add. In addition to this, I am syncing the daily builds we produce in the Novell Cambridge/Boston office to an external facing server. It is often faster to download a pre-built image than it is to build your own, but be assured: there's no magic happening inside our firewall that you can't conjure yourself -- the images are built entirely from the public openSUSE build service (how to do so is documented on the workflow page above).
