The big push started on Friday, with thanks to Michael for planning
and Vincent for doing the initial import from the IBS to the OBS.
As it stands now, 93 packages have been linked to openSUSE 11.2 with
76 packages needing some form of intervention before they can be sent
upwards for inclusion into the distro; there are also 61 packages not
in distro yet. I was going to attack the new packages first, but I
have noticed one of the errors of my ways - I didn't keep a close eye
on Federico's hard work[0]. I am going to go through this now before
I do anything else and tidy my little mess up - sorry. I will update
the wiki and also ensure that patches/modifications mentioned in [1]
are also sr'ed up the tree. As for submitting them upstream, is there
a process for that or is it just open a bug report in the respective
bugzilla?
Once that is done I will start to look at getting the 61 new packages
submitted to GNOME:Apps, from where they will go into Factory. I will
need to ensure that the spec files meet Vincent's high levels of
quality or I'm sure he will not hesitate to deny their acceptance. I
have set up a Gobby (0.4) instance should anyone wish to join in the
fun (I'm sure you all do, just don't have the time ;-) )
So just to re-iterate what the immediate action items are:
1. ensure all patches/changes in [1] are sr'ed up, and upstreamed
where necessary.
2. ensure that the Pending Packages list in [0] is updated.
3. look at new packages to sr up.
If anyone see any errors in my thinking please let me know.
Regards,
Andy

So,
Here is the plan; I've assigned items on it - I hope that is ok;
Vincent you suggested we could borrow some of your time ?
Actions:
1. empty / clean out Moblin:UI as a repository
+ this will eventually be the devel repository for the
new Moblin packages going into oS:F - that can't find
a home elsewhere.
AdrianS - we can't do this because of stale links; can
you over-ride those & delete the contents of Moblin:UI ?
2. create Moblin 2.2 repository
+ check in the packages from ibs'
SUSE:SLE-11:Moblin:2.1 here (yes 2.1 for now).
+ *why* ?
+ autobuild 'cleans up' .spec files making them
un-diffable, and this causes us -tons- of work
if we continue to have different internal and
external spec files => we need to close the
loop
+ check in all the ibs Moblin:2.1 packages from that
channel
3. start migrating packages:
+ for each migrated package, merge in Federico's changes
from Moblin:Cleanup
a) Merge all *new* GNOMEish packages into GNOME:Apps &
GNOME:Factory and link back into Moblin:2.2
b) Merge all *existing* GNOMEish package changes into
GNOME:Factory and GNOME:STABLE:2.28 and link back into
Moblin:2.2 from GNOME:STABLE:2.28 (with versioned link)
c) rationalise non-GNOME packages, merge patches into oS:F
where possible, in the meantime link Moblin:2.2 to
oS:11.2 with the same patches applied.
4. get Moblin:2.2 building vs. oS:11.2 (only)
get Moblin:UI building vs. oS:Factory, and oS:11.2
+ get images built etc.
5. when Aaron is happy rename Moblin:UI to Moblin:Factory to provide
a cleaner, meaner naming scheme :-)
6. Development / packaging work to reconcile the mutter issue: more
parallel installation & packaging goodness.
---- Q & A ----
* What about the kernel ?
+ there will be some packages that continue to 'live'
in Moblin:2.2 - c'est la vie.
* What about heavily patched base-system packages: aaa_base etc. ?
+ oS:F works quite nicely without these, at some boot time
performance hit.
+ oS:F can take that for now; we should focus first on
getting the UI working on top of oS:F, and do these later
* What about heavily patched GNOME packages ?
+ see 3. c) if we can't get the packages into
GNOME:STABLE:2.28 - then we need to keep them and merge
them later.
+ some examples might be the telepathy hacks; some of these
may require development work, but for now - we should drive
to getting new packages submitted & -something- working on
oS:F (IMHO etc.) :-)
Does that make sense ?
I've created Moblin:2.2 and set Andrew, Vuntz & the usual suspects as
maintainers; can we go wild ? :-) ...
Remember - step 1 is the (automatic, scripted import from ibs - I guess
we should set that running ...). I'll beg Adrian for the Moblin:UI
cleanup now.
Regards,
Michael.

Hi guys,
So; we need to get all this stuff merged into Factory; of course, since
we have few resource to do that, this is a great opportunity for people
to get involved :-)
a) first split off Moblin 2.1 in OBS (abock)
+ I believe this is done only internally
+ Aaron - can we do a copy here ?
+ otherwise, I'll just do a monster copypac
across to there.
--- at this point we can break M:F happily ---
b) next - merge all -new- GNOMEish packages from into:
GNOME:Apps and GNOME:Factory (as appropriate)
+ These versions should come from Moblin:Cleanup *BUT*
+ we need to check all recent fixes since Federico
branched get included: sadly this is not at all
easy with obs
+ manual .changes comparison is prolly the only way
c) next - merge all cleaned up 2.28 patches into
GNOME:Factory and GNOME:STABLE:2.28
with versioned links from GNOME:STABLE:2.28 back into Moblin:Factory
+ again these should come from Moblin:Cleanup where possible.
d) rationalise non-GNOME packages, merge patches into:
openSUSE:Factory (via their up-streams - if at all possible)
e) build public Moblin:Factory vs. 11.2 only
+ built it vs. SLE11 [-SP1] only internally
+ provide public images from openSUSE:Factory / milestone builds.
f) Development work to reconcile the mutter issue, and whatever
else bites.
How does that sound ?
Regards,
Michael.

Hye,
It's just an idea but to keep Goblin isn't logical. I can agree with
your point. So there are two options, find a new name as it was done
with Goblin or to follow a more consensual way like Novell did with
SUSE Moblin and make a ***openSUSE MeeGo*** as there will probably be
a SUSE MeeGo (if they keep the same logic). There could be also
trademark issue with MeeGo (and also Geemo).

I suggested a cool name to replace Goblin (Geecko Moblin):
**GeeMo**
GeeMo is the MeeGo off the Geecko ;-)
Let's start first with a netbook version.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for clarifying this. I thought 'SUSE Moblin' mostly was a
'standard Moblin 2.1' Suse-fied with some SLED look&feel and applications
for Atom Netbooks different from Goblin as an optional Moblin desktop
(Moblin UI) for the complete openSUSE.
If I understand you right, the available Moblin UI repos here are not
ready for 11.2 and Factory yet(?)
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Moblin://UI/openSUSE_11.2/http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Moblin://UI/openSUSE_Factory/
As a member of the openSUSE Testing Core Team, I will be more than happy
to test also Goblin as far as it becomes ready for some 11.3
Milestone/Factory, or on 11.2 before that.
Rgds,
Terje

Hi,
SUSE Moblin has been announced and reported was demonstrated at the 2010
Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with partners MSI and Samsung. Products
will be available in February 2010.
http://www.novell.com/promo/lp/moblin.html
As I understand, SUSE Moblin is based on Moblin and SLED11. I wonder if
SUSE Moblin is (will be) available as a free distro for download, or if
there is an equivalent project based on openSUSE beside?
As SUSE Moblin ought to be quite ready on MSI, I wonder if SUSE Moblin is
more mature than Goblin currently for openSUSE 11.2/11.3/Factory here
