Starting new activities, switching activities, adding and removing widgets, opening and closing programs and windows, and switching desktops all cause the amount of memory plasma-desktop consumes to increase. When closing windows, widgets, etc., memory is not freed. Plasma-desktop continues taking up ram. I am using the default desktop effects settings with this openSUSE install, with the "radeon" kernel driver. I also have noticed Xorg use high amounts of memory and CPU time on occasion, and don't know if these two things are related. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the things I listed above 2. Observe the ram consumption in ksysguard 3. Close widgets, applications, windows, etc. Actual Results: Ram was not freed. Expected Results: plasma-desktop should free ram after closing things I listed above. This is a major problem, especially in a server environment, and there have been past bug reports about this issue that were marked as fixed. It does not looks quite useful requesting root privileges to perform a Display Brightness Level adjustments for daily user operations. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Configure your system to use Secure File Permissions 2.Activate Power settings on Dim Screen after "n" minutes. * 3.Another way to replicate it is using keys to change the Screen Brightness.* Actual Results: 2) * At the time is reached or 3) * Switching keys to adjust the Screen Brightness Level It will show a dialog "system policies prevent you from getting the brightness level" and it will request you enter "root" password to perform the actions. The gui prompts normaly but hangs after the authentication is clicked and greys out.
