The reason for this is that libsmbclient-devel-4.1.x installs its include file (libsmbclient.h) to /usr/include/samba-4.0/ instead of /usr/include. So the configure script doesn't find it and disables Samba support. Adding the option "--with-samba-includes=/usr/include/samba-4.0" to %configure enables it again (and it does even work! ;) ). I spotted the problem on 2 systems and installed module-init-tools. On a third system I forgot to install module-init-tools and reboot failed with no access to usb or wired keyboard, network or anything else that needed modules were started. I had to do a fresh install, "zypper in module-init-tools", built and installed vanilla 3.13-rc7 and rebooted successfully. I did play around with booting from CD, mounting /dev/sda2 as /tmp/2, chroot /tmp/2 and mounting /dev/sda1 as /boot but that didn't allow zypper in module-init-tools to work. Now put it on an ultrabase with one monitor branched to HDMI and one on the VGA. Now set the two monitors to be "side by side" instead of cloned. The image will be correct but you will not have any change on the second monitor, it remains a clone. The first user to log into KDE has a working setup. So, a) you have two seperate screens, mouse consistently migrates and you can place different wallpaper on the two desktops. But all the others find: you cannot split monitor output, HDMI output is always dominant, the other screen is always a perfect clone (therefore also the resolution is set wrongly). This seems to be stable at every reboot. The monitors show in settings correctly as "cloned" but you memorized them as "separated". Any try to change this is only cosmetic, the few time you mention to have a reaction and two monitors are correctly setup separately the setting will be lost at reboot. None of the monitors is selected as main video exit. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot and login to more then one KDE user 2.first user will have the screen setup "spit" correctly and will recall settings after reboot, all the other randomly (with a prevalence of 90%-99%) will show the monitor set to "cloned" and will forget settings applied at reboot. 3.Set the settings to "split monitor" and save. Settings will have no effect. The few times they have settings will be lost at reboot. Actual Results: System sets the monitors as cloned. System forgets the settings after reboot. Only first user in KDE seems to work correctly. Expected Results: System should set the monitors as spit when asked for, and should impose settings right away when clicking apply. System should recall settings for "split" at boot. I think that was the recommended size of /boot in past versions of the openSUSE installer. It might still be the recommended size in current versions of the installer, that is something to check: it should probably be at least 250MB these days. The openSUSE Plymouth images expand the the size of initrd from about 16MB to 24MB. Combined with the other files, it makes it too big to use the latest,latest-1,running setting in zypp.conf's multiversion.kernels setting. The culprit are the background images. There are four of them for four different aspect ratios. Here are some ideas on reducing the size: 1. Aspect ratio might not be important for the background image. Keep just the highest-resolution one, and scale it to the screen. 2. Use a less "organic" image, e.g. with smooth gradients, that compresses better with PNG. 3. Add JPEG or WEBP support to Plymouth, and use a lossy-compressed background image.
