The picture has stopped, the screen started to flicker. I tried to switch to console but a few seconds later screen went dark and system was unresponsive to any key (including power button) and was not reachable by network. The ioquake3 package is from "games" repository. All available updates are installed. It has an error message: ls: invalid option -- ' ' Here is the fix (using an array instead of a string, so the IFS variable is only used when setting the array, not every time ls is run): IFS=' ' LS_OPTIONS2=($LS_OPTIONS) alias ls='ls ${LS_OPTIONS2[@]}' I have this in my ~/.bash_profile now, but if this was made the default ls alias, then it would work by default. Other distros (eg. debian and Ubuntu) have a different alias (alias ls='ls --color=auto'), and don't have this problem. How can I insert my own local completions without having to reinsert them every time you issue a new release? A. Put them in ~/.bash_completion, which is parsed at the end of the main completion script. And indeed, if you read the source code at /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion, you'll see that it first applies its own completions, and then sources the user's ~/.bash_completion. However, openSUSE's /etc/bash.bashrc overrides this behaviour. That script first checks for ~/.bash_completion, and executes it if present. Only if it is *not* present does it run /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion (via /etc/profile.d/bash_completion.sh). This makes it impossible for the user to specify additional completions in accordance with the bash-completion manual. If he tries to do so, none of the "official" completions get loaded. Reproducible: Always I attach a patch for /etc/bash.bashrc which puts the test for ~/.bash_completion after the one for /etc/profile.d/bash_completion.sh. This solves the problem in my case. I note, however, that /etc/bash.bashrc checks for a lot of other scripts here (/etc/bash_completion and /etc/profile.d/complete.bash) which on a stock openSUSE 12.3 system should never exist in the first place. I rememebered that in fact in other distribution it worked well, so I branched it in obs, droped two SUSE specific patches (virtman-virtinstall.diff and virtman-vminstall.diff) and it works again. A check of the values size, oem-systemsize and sizes in systemdisk - In general, I think these tags make sense. The part that is not intuitive (to me, anyway) is the interaction between "oem-systemsize", "systemdisk", and "size". More specifically, it is difficult for me to predict when kiwi will resize LVM volumes and when it will not. In most cases, I've been able to look at "boot.kiwi", and then read through the code to figure out what kiwi is doing. - In terms of documentation, I think the sections that describe "oem-systemsize" and "size" could be improved. It wasn't clear to me that "size" controls the size of the image file itself, not the image as it is installed on the hardware.
