After the update the system could only start in failsafe mode. In standard mode (boot options: nomodeset vga=0x31a) the mouse and keyboard do not work. I tried to reuse the old xorg. conf file, but that did not help either. The system runs with an older SONY Multiscan 17SE CRT, and the xorg.conf is mainly used to set a convenient resolution of 1280x1024 for all users. Up to now I could not get a setup other than failsafe to start the PC at all. Any hints? Thanks! During installation, the system freezes during the installation reboot (just before it asks for the machine name and domain). I had to "hard reboot" the system and then it continued without problems. After installation, the system worked fine. I could do updates and customizations. And then, when I reboot the system, it froze at start with the error message "invalid partition table". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install fresh new 12.3 2. had to "hard reboot" because system froze during installation reboot 3. normal installation after that 4. log in, do some updates 5. reboot 6. system freezes at start with error message "invalid partition table" Actual Results: The system freezes with error message "invalid partition table" after rebooting! The machine has 8 GB ram. I did attribute 1 GB to nepomuk indexing service to ease the work of the program. The system with nepomuk-indexer running (showing in top 100% CPU time), does not slow down operations but causes the machine gradually to overheat. It eventually then shuts down for having reached the thermal protection level. If you switch off desktop indexing, the overheats stops and the machine turns to normal. This machine did never heat up before under linux (running 11.1 before). This happens with the machine on power plug, with our without battery loading, with our without ultrabase support. The culprit is clearly the running indexing process. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Take a X201 Thinkpad notebook with 8 GB ram and 64 bit openSUSE 12.1. Activate desktop search and attribute 1 GB of memory to the indexer. 2.start the machine in normal operation, indexer will run. 3.machine will gradually overheat (you can hear the ventilator) and finally shutdown in thermal emergency. Actual Results: machine does overheat Expected Results: the desktop should be indexing without problems giving the reckoning power and the architecture / amount of memory available. The critical temperature should not be reached on a healthy system at normal room temperature.
