[Bug 788410] New: X-Server freezes after update to 12.2
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=788410 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=788410#c0 Summary: X-Server freezes after update to 12.2 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: axel.braun@gmx.de QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=512117) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=512117) Hardware info User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0 The system was running nicely on openSUSE 12.1, did an online update to 12.2. After the update the system could only start in failsafe mode. In standard mode (boot options: nomodeset vga=0x31a) the mouse and keyboard do not work. I tried to reuse the old xorg. conf file, but that did not help either. The system runs with an older SONY Multiscan 17SE CRT, and the xorg.conf is mainly used to set a convenient resolution of 1280x1024 for all users. Up to now I could not get a setup other than failsafe to start the PC at all. Any hints? Thanks! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot in normal mode 2. system starts, but screen freezes 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

About the input devices; It may be easier and more flexible to set Option "AutoAddDevices" to "on" in "ServerFlags" section and let X server find devices itself.
that helped a lot, thanks. before the login-screen was frozen after ALT-N for a text konsole, now keyboard and mouse work.
Does the X start if you remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf entirely?
in between, yes, but only in 1024x768
Please provide Xorg log and dmesg output.
See attached. It seems that the recent X11 update fixed the problem. The system is now booted just with parameter vga=0x31a. I tried sax3 in between, but that crashes before it can create a configuration. I dont know if you want to follow this 'for the records', but in my view it works now -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
