The sound module should be in the default installation. Did you change the
software selection in any way or did you just accept the default (KDE Desktop
pattern)?

Summary: Yast lacks a LOT of hardware configuration modules -
regression bug
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Alpha 4
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: YaST2
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening(a)forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: al4321(a)gmail.com
QAContact: jsrain(a)novell.com
This is a regression bug - hardware modules that existed in SUSE 10.0 and
older, suddenly disappeared from openSUSE 10.2 alpha4.
The openSUSE 10.2 alpha 4 has only 8 modules out of 14 in SUSE Linux 10.0.
The disappeared modules are:
-Scanner
-Sound
-TV
-CD-ROM
-Bluetooth
-JoyStick
Where are they ?

10.2 Alpha 4 - Yes the bug is fixed, but the YaST Sound was not installed by a
default installation (!?) - had to be installed manually. Then the sound card
was found and configured correctly straight away.
Maybe the issue with "YaST Sound was not installed by a default installation"
is itself a new bug?

Could you please paste fdisk -l output here? I know that it's a 60GB laptop
disk with some 10G reiser FSes in logical partitions, but other readers might
want to know as well.
