Connect poll test

Hi, the board elections will start in january 2011, and we are in the process of phasing out users.opensuse.org in favour for connect.opensuse.org. So we need to make sure that we can run the election there. There is a poll plugin available, that we plan to use for this. I created a test poll for the board elections here: http://connect.opensuse.org/pg/polls/read/digitaltomm/10593/board-election-… (opensuse login not yet working, please ask prusnak if you don't have a test account) The issues I currently see are: - Start- End-date: Users.o.o had this configureable. In case of need we can click at the right time, but I don't see how to end a vote. - The results shouldn't be visible until the vote is done. Maybe it's also ok if only users that already voted can see the intermediate results? - It would be nice if we could add some introductory text above the poll options. - Users.o.o had much nicer graphs on participation, results. We may create those manually with an external tool. See for example: https://users.opensuse.org/elections/2/result - We need to announce the election to all members. Users.o.o had a function for this. To do this manually we need at least a list of all members emails. - Is it ok that one can see which user already voted, and when he voted? By constantly monitoring you could create a list which member voted for wich candidate. - The vote is now restricted to the group 'members'. Does this mean it is only visible for them, or can everyone see it? - The site needs more design love. [RED] - IChain still not available for connect. Escalated. [YELLOW] - discussed with Michael and Cornelius the FATE feature development. We can do that not earlier than february because of a Gallery-Release, February is difficult for us because of FOSDEM and 11.4 release in march. The base problem of the ongoing maintenance remains unsolved. Cross-distro topics

Hey, Here are some of the cross-distro topics that people are interested in. It's worth mentioning that a, b, c, d & e could possibly all live in the same service, but do not depend on each other (well, except that b, c, d & e potentially depend on a). a) Downstream/Upstream name mapping table ========================================= That's a really simple project that can map upstream and downstream names, potentially with information about a branch. For example: gtk2 in openSUSE is gtk+ (branch 2.x) upstream. That's something that some other tools will need, since this is what will make those tools work in more than one distro. b) Shared package descriptions ============================== The goal is to centralize the package descriptions whenever possible, to make sure we have high-quality descriptions. This also enables a centralized place to translate those descriptions, which will be a nice benefit. It will have a visible impact once we get an app store, since descriptions will be much more visible for applications. Note: one difficulty is how to handle subpackage. Some distros might have different subpackages, for example. Solution to be defined. c) Shared application screenshots ================================= That's something that could be used for the app store. I guess we can just all choose to use http://screenshots.debian.net/. It might be worth defining policies on what desktop environment theme/background/etc. to use, though. d) Upstream version tracker =========================== A web service to easily find what's the latest upstream version for a module (potentially with branches). Later on, it could also contain information about which versions are used in various downstreams. e) Downstream patch tracker =========================== Most distros provide a way to see patches used in their packages. A centralized tracker would make it easy for interested people to see what patches are used for a specific module (that's of interest to upstream, and to all distros that usually look at patches in other distros). Ubuntu already has something that does some of this, iirc. f) App store/Software center/Market place ========================================= There's discussion to provide a cross-distro user experience for this, using the same bricks. The applications that can be found in the app store would be different at first, since they would come from the distro repos. The current plan is to organize a 2-3 days meeting in January, with people from Debian, Fedora, Mageia, openSUSE and Ubuntu. What I did: * boring stuff - admins were collecting old hardware, so I got myself a new computer - installation of 11.4 and some configuration - will make it easier to test packages, package things and more - little MySQL stuff - little openSUSE Paste stuff - got SIP working to be able to attend meetings from home, unfortunately just after the meeting that I wanted to attend from home * more interesting stuff - attended Gentoo Christmas party - had a lot of fun - spoke with some of them about getting osc into Gentoo - packaged it, went through some reviews, fixed several things and almost got it in there, currently waiting whether it would be possible to have it cleaner (on our side), but not really blocked by anything and current state is almost there What I plan to do: * finish all 11.4 things * finish all MySQL stuff * blog, blog, blog about everything -- Michal HRUSECKY SUSE LINUX, s.r.o openSUSE Boosters Team Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xFED656F6 19000 Praha 9 mhrusecky[at]suse.cz Czech Republic http://michal.hrusecky.net http://www.suse.cz

What I did last week: - Finally had time to do some GNOME 3 hacking. Played with gnome-session, and reviewed some pending patches. - Did more bug triage, and scheduled some packages for 11.3 maintenace updates. - "Helped" people do some maintenance updates for 11.3 (pidgin & gnome-keyring) -- mostly guiding them through the steps. Good to see that it's all easy now (except for the patchinfos at the moment). - Some discussion about app store meeting, and clarified what it was compared to project Bretzn.
