[opensuse] automount - only some mountpoints, not all
Just before I go delve further into the automount options - does anyone happen to know if I can have autofs only mount certain mountpoints, and not others? For instance, given the directory: /var/lib/capitals/ I would like to have /var/lib/capitals/oslo auto-mounted but not /var/lib/capitals/copenhagen. The reason being - "/var/lib/capitals/copenhagen" is local, "/var/lib/capitals/oslo" is remote. I've tried creating /var/lib/capitals/copenhagen before starting automount, but this produces this funny situation: calcium:/var/lib/capitals # ls -l $PWD/copenhagen ls: cannot access /var/lib/capitals/copenhagen: No such file or directory calcium:/var/lib/capitals # l total 0 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Sep 24 11:33 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Sep 24 11:33 ../ dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Sep 24 11:33 copenhagen/ -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.7°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Any mountpoint I have defined in fstan (with noauto) won't automount, while others will. That's the only option I know, but there may be others. Thierry -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Thierry I'm talking using the automount daemon, not running "mount -a". Usually automount looks after an entire directory, such as /var/lib/capitals and anything under there is handled by automount. I was just wondering if there was a way of telling automount that "capitals/oslo" is local and need no mounting where as "capitals/copenhagen" is remote and needs mounting. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.2°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, it's possible; you just need to define automount map for /capitals/copenhagen explicitly. This is called direct mounts. What you cannot do is to have indirect map for /capitals and then exclude /capitals/Oslo. At least, I am not aware of this possibility.

Well, at least that confirms my own results sofar - I can't find such a possiblity either. Thanks for the reply, Andrei. /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.1°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I haven't used the automounter in quite some time but used to be a rather heavy user. IIRC, what you want is a "direct" mount. See auto.master(5): "direct maps". There are some direct map examples in autofs(5). Indirect maps take over an entire mount point, whereas direct maps allow placing individual mount points (as absolute paths). --Phil -- Philip Amadeo Saeli psaeli@zorodyne.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Phil Yeah, I realize that's (indirect maps) what I have atm. I set it up myself a few years ago, I've forgotten how this stuff works. Well, I can't change the indirect mapping, so I'll have to think up something else. thanks Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.9°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
