[opensuse] AdBlock Plus (for Firefox et al)
A few days ago in another oS list I posted an article re AdBlock Plus claiming that its owner "....has been quietly approaching makers of iOS ad-blocking software, offering them monthly payouts to support the "whitelist" policy that allows the AdBlock Plus to make its money." http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/digital-life-news/adblock-plus-accused-of... AdBlock Plus (for Firefox) had been 'replaced' by AdBlock Edge (a fork or AB+) some time ago which did not allow a whitelist of ads. I just had a look and found that AdBlock Edge has been discontinued but has been replaced (by the (?)author - I didn't check) by *uBlock* *Origin* which, of course, does not have a whitelist. FYI. I am not sure what exactly you are trying to question here, David. If you suggesting that AdBlock Edge is still available then I guess it still is but you should also read this on the page of the first URL you mention above: quote About this Add-on Adblock Edge is a fork of the Adblock Plus version 2.1.2 extension for blocking advertisements on the web. This fork will provide the same features as Adblock Plus 2.X and higher but without "acceptable ads" feature. Adblock Edge was primarily branched off from Adblock Plus 2.1.2 source code package "http://adblockplus.org/downloads/adblockplus-2.1.2-source.tgz" created by Wladimir Palant. **This addon has been discontinued Reason: Discontinued in favor of Ublock Origin, a general purpose blocker, that not only outperforms Adblock Edge but is also available on other browsers and, of course, without "Acceptable Ads Whitelist". This page will be kept for archival purposes. You can still contact me on GitHub or Bitbucket as Adstomper.*** unquote BC -- Using openSUSE 13.2, KDE 4.14.9 & kernel 4.2.1-1 on a system with- AMD FX 8-core 3.6/4.2GHz processor 16GB PC14900/1866MHz Quad Channel RAM Gigabyte AMD3+ m/board; Gigabyte nVidia GTX660 GPU -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
