Hi,
quite some time ago I started working on process to retire openSUSE Members that are no longer active. I sent out few initial mails, but then process stalled for some time. I finally believe that I fixed everything and I'm ready to make it happen. But even though I run several tests and everything seems fine there is still possibility that there are some bugs. So if you receive unjustified threatening mail, don't worry about it and let me know.
Brief recap, as discussed previously, it will move people who haven't been active for more than six months and haven't responded to any of the reminder e-mails to different group - openSUSE Members Emeritus. Those people will be notified vie their e-mail. If they want to keep membership, all they have to do is to respond to that mail, and they will be reinstated automatically after a short while. Currently this interval may be even more than a day as I'm running it manually to have thing a little bit more under control. Later on, after some more testing, reaction time will be reduced and whole thing will be let run unattended.
So this is mainly intended as a heads-up in case something goes wrong, but hopefully, nothing will.
Regards, Michal Hrusecky

Not sure what "active" is or was supposed to mean, but I've certainly been active on mailing lists and BOO, if not the Wiki. So I don't know why I'd have gotten an email about https://connect.opensuse.org/pg/profile/mrmazda inactivity. Maybe because I never bothered to configure usage of my @opensuse.org email addresses?

Well my inactivity email oddly enough went to my bugzilla / obs email account (I think) rather then the email address I had listed on connect (Which in fairness I haven't really used since I started working at SUSE and never updated in connect). So there maybe some issues for those that have multiple addresses in places but I half expected to get a email and did get one so I guess its probably working.

It scans mailing lists, which includes opensuse-bugs and opensuse-commit - so it should be able to track activity even in bugzilla and commits to factory. But yes, I noticed that there is some bug and although it looked working during testing, seems like in real test it failed :-(

Well, I got the email, complaining that I'm not active and claiming I could add additional email-addresses in connect, which I can't. Or at least I can't find it.
What's "nice", though (and explains the massive amount of spam I receive via the opensuse.org forwarder) is that the opensuse.org aliases are listed publicly on connect, ready for spam-address-harvesting.
=> epic fail

Well if it has only considered this mailing list, it's a bit true that we don't see that much activity and contributions from the board here since months :-)
The second mail worried me a bit, and hopefully in the 30 next secondes the bot send its apologies, that it still under drugs, and need a doctor.
The cool and positive things, is it will bring the project ml and global community alive again ;-)

As you have hopefully read at news.o.o, the openSUSE Heroes had a meeting in Nuremberg last weekend, and the spam on the member mail addresses was also a topic we discussed (I received a spam mail during the meeting and instantly put it on the agenda ;-)
As soon as the member retirement is fixed and done, members' mail addresses will be migrated to Heinlein - and I know that Peer and his team know how to block spam ;-)
If you are interested in all (lots of!) things we did at this weekend - read the summary at news.opensuse.org or the meeting minutes at http://lists.opensuse.org/heroes/2016-12/msg00002.html and http://lists.opensuse.org/heroes/2016-12/msg00004.html (wiki-specific details)

[1] now at https://de.opensuse.org/SDB:Distribution_umkopieren Someone should probably s/SuSE Linux/openSUSE/ (yes, it's from the "lowercase u" times), but besides that, the article still looks valid :-)

Just reply to the email with something humerous like "I'm alive!"
And don't worry, even in the absolute worst case of something going horrifically wrong and you getting removed from the members list inappropriately (which I promise to do my best to make sure will never happen), the fundamental principle of 'you are a member until you no longer want to' will always apply
So you can be assured that you can always ask to be re-instated with no questions asked.

Well given that the mail was sent in error, based on responses by others in this thread I don't think there is anything to wrry about just yet. If there is anything to worry about at all. For what it's worth I simply replied the message I received to the sender, the bot I presume.
On the use of @opensuse.org it sound like that making it a real mail service hosted by Heinlein is getting closer to implementation then all your problems with the forwarding service go away ;)
Later, Robert

Depends on the ISP. Mine, for instance, does not allow what you propose. I can only send with the address provided by the ISP and there is no procedure to add any other.

There should be a empty field under your first email, add a second one there press apply or save or whatever then the next time you edit your profile there will be a extra empty box for another address.

The contact email is handled in the novell account. At least the opensuse-(dis)connect tool tells me so.

In the novell account settings?
And still, listing my opensuse email alias unmangled on the public view of my profile on connect just invited spammers.
I'll just let the emails bounce at my server now, I only used the @opensuse.org at some bugzillas anyway, so not much is lost.
BTW: what happened with this "automatic reminder tool" is exactly what people have criticized will happen and what will disturb the active members. Of course these concerns have been waved off... Well done.

Even if Telefonica restricts the envelope address (a strict but not unreasonable anti-spam measure), you should be able to change the From: address.
Try this script:
http://files.jessen.ch/carlostest
just run it with 'sh carlostest'. I would be surprised if Telefonica will reject it based on content of the From: header.

Yeah, I guess most MUAs will use the same address in the envelope and in the header. You could do it with some magic in a local MTA.

I think tricks for doing that were posted years ago on the old suse mail lists, because the list server checked the envelope address only.

Yes, of course.
My intention was solely to remind those with a fine mail provider that not every provider works that way. None of the different mail providers I have tried in Spain allows sending with a different "From". I have to use an American mail provider. Sorry for the confusion.
This has caused me many problems in the past, because Postfix did not support the situation. There was one relay host and that's it. Now, there is a configuration in postfix that tells which smtp server to use for each different from, and what password to use in each case.

Yes, indeed.
Many thanks, Jan

In KMail, "Use custom sender address" in the Advanced tab of the SMTP settings dialog looks promising.
