Hello, this is my first reply on medical's mailing list and i would like to share with you some of our thoughts about the medical project. >From the presentation of thanasis rousinopoulos at fosscomm(greek foss event) me,thanasis and 2 other gyus motived to help to the development of medical project. We(the three gyus) are a bit of good coders.The first one is a foss/coder guy for 4-5 years and the me and antonis(the third guy) we are KDE contributors. None of us has something to do with medical stuff but coding is something that we love and knowing that an opensuse project needs our help is the only thing that we need to know in order to contribute.:) Our names are Tsiapaliwkas Giorgos,Giorgos Koutsikos(also opensuse ambassador) and Tsiapaliokas Antonis and of course thanasis rousinopoulos aka zoumpis. This is also our etherpad which we created in order to help the medical project. I was waiting until now in order to say these to you because today we had an another greek foss event named ELLAK(ELLAK is the greek word for foss) and we were hoping to find some more contributors. Thankfully i found an other 3 people who wants to contribute. The 2 told me that are experienced programmers who want to help and the third person is just a linux user. I can't guarantee for them,but as you can see medical project can motivate a lot of people.. The idea of creating applications for the medical project,merging the gap of upstream and downstream projects,is a factor which can make opensuse project and opensuse medical project to shinny in the foss world. In conclusion,the only thing that i am asking you is to stand to our side as we will try to make the medical project one of the "best" foss projects. Searching for a new Medical Team Leader

Hello Mates, actually i'm searching for a new Medical team Leader. Posssible works are: * regular IRC Meetings * writing Articles for public (maybe linux.com or similar sites), Press releases. * maintain the Portal (adding new sites) * from time to time building a Image on susestudio. I myself maintaining my packages in the medical repositories. Anyone has interest? Report from FOSSCOMM (Patras,Greece) Conference As a distro tester and openSUSE Ambassador, I 'm very happy to report what took place in the conference (it was my first conference as an ambassador and member of openSUSE Medical Team) So the conference lasted 2 days 1st Day : Booth and presentation We set up the booth as an openSUSE Community. All the related stuff (about Medical and openSUSE) was available around the booth. Furthermore me and Stathis Iosifidis we presented the openSUSE Medical project as well as the applications which are available via the openSUSE Medical Distro. I would like to note that we presented the following applications : * openEMR * GNUMed * FreeMedForms * FreeDiams * TEMPO And finally we presented the new application for diabetics (which is available in the medical repository) " plasmoid-glucose " The presentation is available at : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28782593/opensuse_medical_FOSSCOMM2011_001.odp The presentation was really interesting, people (doctors) during the presentation asked us about the distro, the project and how to setup and use the applications in general. 2nd Day : Feedback and Booth support During the second day , we informed the people (via the booth) about the openSUSE Medical project and it's applications and features. Many people asked us about the aim of the project, and how to use the application. In addition with the questions people were surprised with the whole idea of the project and that are able to use this kind of applications as FOSS software. According to me it's very important to present and show the openSUSE Medical project to doctors and students, because this project will be alive only with the collaboration of developers and medical students+doctors. Diabetes applet now available!

I'm very happy to inform all of you that a very useful applet for diabetics is now available (take a look at this) : " Glucose - Bloodsugar Diary Glucose is an applet for diabetics. It can store your bloodsugar readings and show a curve for them. - Zoomable, scrollable. - Add / change / remove readings. - Diagram points are clickable and show a tooltip. - With KDE trunk (4.5) the curve view can be scrolled like the other - views (diary and statistics) using Plasma::ScrollWidget. It then - automatically loads new data from the data engine while scrolling. It can also show some statistics: - For all readings / last 24 hours / last week / last month / ... - Limit to time spans (whole day / morning / noon / evening / night). - Show information like mean, estimated HbA1c, standard deviation, range, - percentages in/above/below target range, number of readings per day, " The program is available via the OBS at : https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=plasmoid-glucose&project=KD… The last two days i really enjoy using this applet! Ginkgo developers are actively working on making packaging easier. Since I take it most of you are not following its progress here are some facts. Ginkgo 2.4.1 has been released. It uses a new cmake build system It compiles without the previously needed patches to other upstream projects It is regarded as highly valuable by all physicians I talked to. Any packaging effort would be appreciated. Here are some relevant bits to get you started: Quote: We were able to build Ginkgo CADx against Debian unstable without library patches or custom builds. Hi, I really think we should roll an newer release of openSUSE medical at studio.suse.com The current one carries gnumed 0.7 which cannot interact with GNUmed. GNUmed 0.9 is available in the medical repo and has a lot more features which would make openSUSE medical even more attractive.
