Ha, yes that's what I meant... lack of caffeine! I run LXDE on my old laptop - fast, elegant and effective. I get the impression, from things said about freedesktop.org and other conversations (regarding the differing aims of Gnome and KDE for example), that LXDE probably needs to keep its presence known.
