Heavy testing is needed since I'm going to make first public tarball release (alpha release). Translators please exam English strings to see if there are errors in spelling or grammar since I'm not native speacker. There is no urgent need to update your translations because strings are not yet frozen and they might be changed later. After some final UI polishing, I'll make a tarball. My current plan is to release it within one week. Besides, some people seemed to notice prolonged startup time. Please confirm this. If the startup speed is really slow, I need to fix that. lxde is now fully installable from Milestone 2 DVD.. that's very good, and thanks to everybody for your greate job, without your help i'll never be able to provide it alone (thanks coolo, vuntz, prusnak, yast developers and so on) now, see if new gcc will break something, and then move on with lots of interesting news.. like: new lxdm with THEME support (marketing/art people are you there? :D) libmenu-cache 0.3.1 with speed up and bug fixes lxpanel 0.5.5 (as before) but most of all, pcmanfm2 looks ready to replace pcmanfm of course everything is already available into X11:lxde at that point, i would like you help to review X11:lxde/libfm i think it really needs to be improved... Hi, I'm just coming over from http://forums.opensuse.org/tech-news/421110-opensuse-lxde-live-cd-now-ready… and I'd like to ask what kind of help is needed. I'm not a programmer or packager and I've been using LXDE for just a couple of weeks now (openbox and kde before) but I do a lot of user support on a german (suse)linux forum and I think I can spend some time supporting LXDE. XFCE suggest to install it or Abiword and Gnumeric (never used before so i don't know how good they are now, but they _ARE_ lightweight) *PDF* epdfview (imho better) or xpdf *Mail client* i have no idea what provide here.. *Money* should we provide gnucash? probably too many gnome dependencies? PCmanFM and openSUSE-Factory : how to go on?

Hi lists, I have a dilemma and i need your help! let me explain the status and then let me ask questions: pcmanfm (0.5.2) is the LXDE file manager, it's fast and lightweight BUT it actually miss trash and gvfs support, in addiction it depends on FAM/GAMIN, and still use hal to mount devices. lxde developers are now developing the NEW pcmanfm (formally called pcmanfm2, but in "about" i read "pcmanfm 0.7"). This new version add lots of features, fix bugs, but most of all "remove" all the "BUTs" pcmanfm 0.5 has. I talked with PCMAN (main pcmanfm developer as you can easly guess) and looking at our Roadmap [1] (i considered M5 or M6 as last option) he sed the new pcmanfm2 should be realeased as stable) i have this question than... should openSUSE 11.3 provides pcmanfm or pcmanfm2? That is what may happen in both cases KEEP pcmanfm: 1st) Because it depends on FAM/GAMIN (and suse provides fam by default), the earlyxdm script MUST add FAM service as Required-Start (or maybe Should-Start, i don't really know where) 2nd) It will be obsolete before 11.3 will be released PROVIDE pcmanfm2 We will provide in our early Milestones releases for testing beta packages of pcmanfm2 and libfm (libfm is a pcmanfm dependency), but here i see ONLY benefits: 1st) we'll help lxde developers providing more testing (and speeding up development) 2nd) we don't need to touch earlyxdm script 3rd) we'll have a better filemanager (with gvfs and trash support and without HAL) 4th) openSUSE 11.3 SHOULD be out with the STABLE version of pcmanfm and if NOT we may use official updates to provide stable version later (has we already did with firefox and thunderbird) 5th) will be much easier maintain and fix bugs. LXDE Menu refresh time

Hello list On on my old laptop I noticed that when clicking on a menu item group it takes some time before showing the item's leafs (3/4 seconds). In this time the disk's led keeps blinking (as for read/write access). IMHO LXDE tries, every while, to refresh some internal data. Is it true? Can this refreshing be turned off (or triggered just after installed a new application)? Hi Rafael, please send this kind of questions into mailing list at opensuse-lxde(a)opensuse.org any way, the problem is not /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager but instead, the xdm init script here: /etc/init.d/xdm openSUSE Factory (next 11.3) is already patched. openSUSE 11.2 is not supporting lxdm, since no lxdm esisted when it was released, and because lxdm is NOT into OSS repo, no patch to support it will be released. Not big deal really, you just have to add the few lines you can find on the patch that you can apply as showed: cp lxdm.patch /etc/init.d/ cd /etc/init.d/ patch -p0 < lxdm.patch rm lxdm.patch Again, please subscribe mailing list for more help.
