The same symptom can be found on the preload image offered by sifive as well [cmd: ext4load]. So it's a question about missing features vs stability. And, the stability of nouveau driver pretty much depends on the hardware model and the usage pattern... It used to have a warning at the installation of nouveau-related package, but it seems either gone or ignored. And, most of users seem installing Nvidia-binary stuff, which seem working more stably. In anyway, the installation of nouveau package as default should be discussed in a different place, e.g. opensuse factory ML. One thing you can try is to test with the recent upstream kernel, available in OBS Kernel:stable:Backport repo.
