Now this is on x86-64 VM, and with a much older kernel (released in July -- corresponding to SLE15-SP2 commit 72557bb644c5). So I'm not quite sure whether it's the same problem. I only did "zypper up kernel-default" and "shutdown -r now" and ended up with an eth0 device in UP state, without an IP address. I could select in GRUB the older kernel and also that one ended up in the same state, device UP, no IP address. I need to restore the whole system to continue with it. The system has become highly unresponsive as a result of this bug; boot time has been extended by several minutes, KDE login now takes at least 2 minutes, Dolphin start-up takes at least 1 minute. The USB device in question is not being used - there is nothing plugged in to it. Not only that but I have tried to remove all USB devices plugged into the machine and the messages continue to appear. This problem did not appear on OpenSUSE Leap 15.1. Windows 10 installer does not report any faulty hardware. Ubuntu has apparently had similar problems reported, and resolved them by reverting the following kernel patch: "https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-usb/patch/1549025551-4306-1-git-…". But this covers only about the modprobe "FATAL" error messages. What about the rest?
