This code %files devel %defattr (-, root, root) %{_includedir}/* %{_libdir}/*.so %{_libdir}/*.*a %{_libdir}/pkgconfig/*.pc causes %{_libdir}/libmultiload-applet-2.so to end up in the -devel package. But this is wrong because because the *unversioned* link is needed at run-time, as you can see in %{_libdir}/bonobo/servers/GNOME_MultiLoadApplet_Factory.server: <oaf_server iid="OAFIID:GNOME_MultiLoadApplet_Factory" type="shlib" location="/opt/gnome/lib/libmultiload-applet-2.so"> Suggested solution: Don't try to handle libmultiload-applet-2.so as a shared library, handle it as what it is (a plugin): - Build with -avoid-version -module - Install it into a subdirectory of %{_libdir}, not %{_libdir} directly - Remove .a and .la files for this plugin (but not for libgweather, which is a real library) The two .so files in the package really serve different purposes. libgweather.so is a shared library, but libmultiload-applet-2.so is a plugin.
