The Desktop effects are disabled, compositing is disabled. The proprietary NVidia drivers were installed. The performance is bad when booting the computer, but degrades over time. After a few hours of working moving around windows on the 2nd monitor is extremely sluggish (-> barely usable). This whole issue was not a problem at all with opensuse 11.1 and KDE3. Installing a kwin from KDE3 and removing kwin from KDE4 restores (accetpable) performance. Installing a 2.6.35 kernel as suggested in some forums does not change the situation.
