On system with more then one cpu (or core) when smp option is used, under heavy keyboard/barecode scanner input, control characters are flooding the screen. Those characters looks like strings which suppose goes to fiscal printer, but due to high latency are just flushed on tty0. The same happens after long use application. It's not related to particular fiscal printer - I reproduce it also on virtual machine using 'dummy fiscal printer' (just emulating it). After switching to 'nosmp' option, all is working normally, i.e. even after very high input traffic all is going properly to fiscal printer. This application is using libncurses to draw the screen. I found this bug primary on 11.3 with it's standard kernel (desktop), but after that I was able to reproduce it on every kernel from 3.0.4 to 2.6.31 - cannot test on earlier version, because I'm must use ext4. I think the problem will appear with every application which outputs anything to serial ports on system with smp -but I'm unable to test it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run system with more then 1 processors and app using serial ports. 2. Simulate high kbd input which must goes to serial port. 3. Actual Results: All string should be putted to serial port. It uses libusb (not sane) to inter-act with the scanner. I have successfully used scanbuttond with a number of previous versions of openSUSE but it won't work with 11.2. With 11.2, it doesn't respond to button presses and never runs the script. The logs show the daemon starts and loads its required back-ends but that it cannot find the installed USB scanner. I have tried the 2 binary versions of scanbuttond (from the repositories) and also compiled from source. The results are the same in each case; scanner not detected so no response to button presses. I should add that the scanner itself is correctly identified by both scanimage -L and lsusb, and scans perfectly using Skanlite or Xsane. I now find that down-grading from the standard libusb-compat (libusb-0_1-4-0.1.13-2.2.x86_64 I think) to the older libusb-0_1-4-0.1.12-140.1.x86_64 (per bug #559697) fixes the problem. The daemon finds the scanner and properly detects any button presses. It seems very likely that scanbuttond relies on a feature from the original libusb0 that is not properly replicated in the compatibility library for libusb1. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install scanbuttond 2. Press a scanner button 3. Actual Results: Nothing happens - logs show scanner not detected. Description. I have a machine with dual boot, having opensuse 11.4 and opensuse 12.1 in two different HD. Everything works Ok under opensuse 11.4 which ruled out BIOS setup as a problem. I did 2 clean installation in 12.1 with the same results. In summary the serial ports are recognized and udev produces the device but when channel tries to access ttyS5 it is blocked like nothing is attach to it. During the many trials one time worked but after reboot the problem reoccur. I reinstall 12.1 clean 3 times all with the same result. No error. Expected Results: Return the channel number. I do understand very well that it will be hard for you to reproduce because the extra equipment needed (cable setup box and serial port). I will be glad to test any suggestions you may have. I do believe there is a problem with the serial port. I wonder if the problem is related to udev? Comparing opensuse 11.4 and 12.1 in the same machine the only difference I found was with one line in udev.
