I see processes like kconf_upd and kwin_upd coming by all the time but for the rest have not been able to pinpoint what is using so much cpu. What I do notice is that my system (Intel i5 and 8GB ram) has become slow, scrolling pages goes with delays and typing this as well. However, I find I get damaged config files, mainly from KDE, although it can also be other files in my home dir. This week my keyboard shortcuts were gone and 2 of my virtual desktops, so I decided to just restore the disk image. Today my favorites in the start menu were reset. I checked out of KDE and run an fsck on the ext3 filesystem of the encrypted home dir and found the filesystem was dirty and 3 files were mentioned to be damaged, among them kickoffrc. So somehow the encrypted loop device is not properly unmounted. After the installation (LXDE + additional sw) the first online update was successful. Then the system required a restart (due to 1 of the online updates). I had to restart the system manually, as it would not shutdown and reboot. After that forced restart the system always wants to go into "finishing the installation" and then hangs at the online update (tried 3 times). Network is OK, DNS resolver works and can ping www.suse.de. Proxy settings in /etc/sysconfig/proxy are correct (worked during net install and 1st online update). GNU sort(1) allows this in two ways: * provide a --parallel=N command line option * set the OMP_NUM_THREADS environment varible, named in the spirit of openmp.org, but not using their library. our patch to default the number of threads to 1 kept the command line switch alife, but it disabled the environment variable. this has created some chagrin on opensuse-factory@. The default choice is pool.ntp.org and the correct time is set. After rebooting, the time is three minutes slow. If I open the Control Module again and select a different server, like north-america.ntp.org, and click apply, the time is correct again. But after a reboot, time is slow by three minutes again. This problem has carried over from openSUSE 12.1. After selecting custom partitioning for experts, the partitioner shows 500GB sdc as having no partitions, even though the last on it is sdc44, confirmed via fdisk -l /dev/sdc on tty2. No partitions on sdc are any part of any RAID. sdc has mostly ever been used as a backup device.
