As devices may be mounted in different places (bind mount) or some path may have several devices backing it, there may be several updates for the same key (key is either the device name or the mount point, depending on the "ReportByDevice" config value). The "several devices for one mount point" case may sound irrelevant, but is quite common, as "/" normally has two entries backing it, the second one being "rootfs". I would have filed as a gnome bug, but neither YaST nor useradd will allow creating a local account that contains a backslash; its a violation of username policy. As a result, if you ssh from one such machine to another any application which requires a session dbus will fail. It seems that /var/lib/dbus/machine-id is never regenerated after system installation. Some of the ones on our network are 4 years old, so it seems to survive operating system upgrades as well. Alternatively, I can run usb_modeswitch directly sudo usb_modeswitch -c /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/12d1\:1c0b Maybe it is just some missing env variable or udev undo the switch afterwards. This brigs a few issues with openSUSE, being the following: 1) YaST can't launch modules due to missing graphical handler; 2) Erratic behavior with mate-keyring; 3) Other minor stuff. I've submitted a bug report upstream against Portland/xdg-utils with small hack for evaluation; This was accepted today and implemented. Since I have an almost ready repo for MATE Desktop (X11:MATE) currently for 12.1, 12.2, Factory and Tumbleweed (I've removed 11.4 since MATE is being ported to gsettings and receiving improvements that will make it incompatible with 11.4). I would like to request a maintenance update to introduce the upstream patch on xdg-utils, so that we can enable MATE for the wider audience for the following platforms: 1) openSUSE 12.1 2) openSUSE 12.2 3) openSUSE Factory I am available to push the updates to xdg-utils, but I would like to receive a 'GO' from the Maintenance Team. When starting Firefox, it checked for updated plugins etc. and then started - and crashed when all tabs (4) where open. This crashing could be repeated as needed. I then started firefox --failsafe; that works, but crashes when I quit Firefox. This also happens every time. When I reset firefox (i.e. move my profile away), it also works - but crashes every time.
