RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter [10ec:8176] (rev 01) I've noticed that it's speed drops down to approximately 1Mbit/s under heavy load. For exmaple if I start to download a torrent file or jsut do speedtest.net testing, firstly it transkmits data on my ISP maximum speed (about 20MBit/s), then, after few seconds, transmission rate goes down. It's not an ISP issue, cause on ethernet everything is o.k. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start downloading a big file 2. As instructed with 12.1 release I deleted entries (repos) for 11.4, and added "Current OSS" ones. Then I installed newer evince and okular. It trigerred a lot of new installs and updates. I accepted, after that my entire desktop was unusable -- almost every program complained about missing something, it appeared two reasons -- one: KDE3 library entry from /etc/ld.so.config was deleted and second, older apps (i.e. currently installed) were unable to use newer glic. The version difference between glibc is minor (take it literally), but nevertheless it broke my system. However, closing the lid makes the laptop freeze on wakeup. The problem is caused by one of the scripts: 98video-quirk-db-handler 99video Moving them apart makes things work. This overloaded use of "-v" when what is really wanted is "zypper install --details" is unsatisfying. Solution: add a "--details" flag to "zypper install" that shows the additional *install related* detail shown by "zypper -v install ..." without the additional *non-install related* detail. I had a look at /proc/acpi/video to had a look at the brightness information, but the only folders there are GFX0 and PEGP, none of them contains an LCD subfolder. :-( It seems that brightness information is stored in: * GFX0/DD01/brightness * GFX0/DD02/brightness * PEGP/DD01/brightness * PEGP/DD02/brightness Writing "50" into this files (for 50% brightness) does not change the brightness. Interesting detail: xbacklight now sais the brightness was 50% but its not. Setting the brightness directly with xbacklight also does not work. Xorg detects backlight controls: "(II) intel(0): found backlight control interface /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video1", but there is also a acpi_video0. I have written different values in the "brightness" file of both entries but nothing happened. I suspect this to be an issue of the switchable graphics or the BIOS: My notebook (HP Envy 14) comes with switchable graphics, see bugs 621522 and 619869. I also tested the latest git kernel (last commit to drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/ was 59e52534172d845ebffb0d7e85fc56fb7b857051) and bisected the kernel between 3.0 and 3.1 and there also every version worked. Menus either do not show up art all, or they are placed at the top of the screen instead of inside the applications window. Most of them also using the wrong orientation and are just partially visible. The behavior sometimes even differs depending on which screen of the Xinerama display the window is shown. Looking for a fix I found: http://repo.or.cz/w/wmaker-crm.git A fork based on the last known CVS version of Window Maker. The repo contains a version WindowMaker-0.94.0.crm, which fixes the above problems. At https://gitorious.org/mlandres/wmaker-crm-obs/commits/obs I took a snapshot of the above repo (v. 0.94.0.crm) and applied all the patches from obs://X11:windowmanagers/WindowMaker(0.92.0). Most of them are meanwhile superfluous as they are already present. You'll find just 3 commits for the WindowMaker-de_translation.patch, WindowMaker-config.dif and WindowMaker-menu.patch left. The resulting package is built at obs:/home:mlandres:Wmaker-crm and by mow running flawlessly on my workstation. Could not start dolphin in system administratioon mode in moment(issue with kdesu?!-> Have a other ticket around here with this). I had to remotely log in and kill the beast with "kill -9". "Standard" Factory installation, X11:Xorg repository added, updated today. "i915.powersave=0" boot parameter because of bug 596844. I played around with the KDE4 desktop effects: the sliding in- and out start menu, the menu of the battery applet and the menu of the "disk mounting applet". I slid them in an out repeatedly. Suddenly the X server locked up, but the mouse cursor was still moving. The animation of my animated mouse cursor stopped. Logfile is attached.
