I tracked it down to the fact, that NM since 0.8 apparently remembers the "suspended" setting over a restart / reboot. During suspend, pm-utils calls dbus-send --system \ --print-reply --reply-timeout=200 \ --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \ /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager \ org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.sleep During resume, it wakes up NM by calling dbus_send --system \ --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \ --print-reply --reply-timeout=200 \ /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager \ org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.wake If the machine crashes during suspend, the .wake is not called and NM remains suspended forever. No matter if it those pm-utils calls are stupid or not, IMHO NetworkManager should not remember this setting via a restart or even a reboot of the machine. After successful installation from the Live Installer I reboot the System. After chosing "OpenSuse" it wants to boot up the operating System but eventually hangs up on a black screen. The last message I see when booting up is: "Starting HAL Deamon..." then the display changes and goes black. After that nothing works anymore. No Mouse and Keyboard Input react. I can only switch off and on the Computer. "Failsafe" Mode does not work either. This issue is the same as in Milestone 2. It seems an error because of use of an obsolete function instead of a replacement one for GTK > 2.20 Trying to avoid it, I copied the gtkglext package to my project home:gbvalor and added the attached patch. With it, OBS compiled OpenSceneGraph 2.8.2 without problems for factory. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Try to compile OpenSceneGraph 2.8.2 package with standard Factory gtkglext 2. 3. And we were told, that their version updates in released branches are in fact maintenance updates. In fact, what they are fixing in new versions are only D1 and D2 bugs with no easy workarounds. D1 means security, crashes and data corruption/loss. D2 means that database either returns wrong data or there is a severe performance regression (also without any easy workaround). So maybe we should consider doing MySQL version updates in openSUSE. Advantages: - less back porting work for me - maybe less work for security team (but we need to track security for SLE anyway) - official and officially supported fixes - fixes for bugs that our users will hit in future before they hit them - risk shouldn't be high - might be good marketing point [1] Disadvantages: - more QA work for me (and maybe others) - bigger updates - people might be scared Basically I want to do the update to the latest 5.0.90 in opsenSUSE 11.1/11.0 now and discuss/create process of what should I do when 5.0.91 will be released... (AP is a Linksys WAP610N) If I use the rt61pci-driver, the performance is very bad, between 50 kB/s to max 1,4 MB/s (at the same place). It's interesting, that the windowsdriver directly loaded after rt61pci has been startet, used and unloaded, did have the same bad performance (this cannot be reproduced every time). Rebooting and starting the ndiswrapper with a newly resetted wlan-chip worked fine again. The performance of the rt61pci-driver is often even bad (about the half of the windowsdriver), if the notebook is placed 2 m beside the AP nothing but air between them. Setting rts or thr to the values, which ndiswrapper is using, doesn't change anything. Result: the rt61pci-driver is unusable for this chip. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. I used yast2 users. After completion, everything appeared OK... except 'su -' and 'sudo' no longer worked. For anybody. ssh -l root localhost did not work su - did not work sudo bash did not work Nothing worked. I rebooted into single-user mode and that did work. A brief investigation showed me that all of the passwords in /etc/passwd had been removed. /etc/shadow did not contain passwords, either. No passwords. Comparing the {shadow,passwd} files to their {shadow,passwd}.YaST2save counterparts revealed part of the problem - /etc/passwd did have the passwords in it. I had temporarily disabled shadow passwords with 'pwunconv' at some point. However, I've also added users, changed passwords, and so on using the console 'useradd', 'groupmod' (the standard pwdutils suite) without error for *months*, years even. One use of yast2 users and my passwords would have been lost (except for the backup files. yay backups!). Please fix yast2 users to NOT hose password entries. Does it not just call out to the standard pwdutils utilities? If not, it should. There is a reason why they exist!
