The system disk is attached to an AMD controller on the motherboard. The remaing 8 disks (raid) are attached to two pcie controller cards (adaptec). In versions of openSUSE 11.1 and earlier the system disk is reported as /dev/sda. In openSUSE 11.4 milestone 1 the system disk is reported as /dev/sdi. The install fails with a notice to the effect that the bios can report only 8 disks and that manual intervention is required to specify a place for the boot loader. The workaround is to remove the 8 raid disks and reinstall the system. When the raid controllers are plugged in again the newly installed system boots just fine. I'll provide more detailed information if requested to do so. The same hardware was used in all of the tests described here. Update system and reboot 2. 3. Actual Results: Can't login into KDE. I notice the following code if((f = fopen(buf,"r"))==NULL) but no matching call to fclose. This looks like a resource leak to me. Suggest code rework. Following some debugging info found on the net, I Deleted the device and tried to configure it again with Edit. The result was: "The kernel module snd-sb16 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters." Next I tried using alsaconf version 1.0.18. I get the selections of "sb16 Creative ViBRA16X PnP" and "legacy Probe legacy ISA (non-PnP) chips. I've tried both with no luck. Both produce this error after "OK, sound driver is configured...": "Loading driver... Starting sound driver: sb16 done Setting default volumes... amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory Saving the mixer setup used for this in /etc/asound.state. /usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1513: No soundcards found..." I tried "rcalsasound restart" next and got... Shutting down sound driver Starting sound driver: sb16 No change. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Upon further investigation, I found a difference between 10.1 and 11.1 that may/may not have contributed to the problem. In 10.1, a Hardware Information->ISA PnP from YaST produces two devices for my Creative ViBRA16X soundcard with SysFS BusID of 00:01.00 and 00:01.01. In 11.1, I get 14 Unclassified devices with SysFS BusID's from 00:00.00 to 00:00.0f with 00:00.01 and 00:00.03 missing. The soundcard is at 01:01.00 and 01:01.01. The Creative ViBRA16X card is an ISA card with PnP. In 10.1, alsaconf configures the card fine. In 11.1, alsaconf "thinks" it configured the card fine, but it errors out with "No soundcards found..." I am still struggling with soundcard on 11.1 but am reporting the weird ISA PnP report from Hardware Information just in case it is related. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install SUSE 11.1 on a machine with a Creative ViBRA16X ISA PnP soundcard. This CD-ROM is broken." Expected Results: a) should not abort from keypresses made before checksumming b) message in case of abort should be along the lines of "You have chosen to abort checksumming, thus integrity of $medium is unknown."
