Clicking the loudspeaker symbol of KMix shows 'Volume 64 %' as before, the KMix window shows all features as if working, Tuning in a music source on Real Player shows normal reaction in the window, however there is no acustic signal. Clicking command KMix gives noresult. Reactivation of sound is possible only by opening the switch-off dialogue and restarting the system. I did not try suspend to RAM. Details of my system: Linux 2.6.22.17-0.1 default i686 eberhard@noname openSuse 10.3/i586 kde 3.5.9 rel 51.2 ATI Mob.Radion 9600/9700 M10/M11 4E50 fglrx openSUSE 10.3 installed ( not upgraded) from DVD of EasyLinux paper ( MD 5 sum o.k.) on Jan. 8 2008. Former system open Suse 10.2 working fine with suspend to disk. Notebook Medion/Aldi Type 95300, Windows XP being installed on the same machine. When I freshly installed 10.3 the shutdown options where available but they disappeared shortly after. Example: 1) install fftw3 from openSUSE 10.3 [fftw3-3.1.2-62] 2) select either fftw3-devel or "install all matching -devel" and fftw3-devel-3.1.2-142.pm.3 (i.e. package from Packman repository) gets selected 3) resolver complains about missing dependencies (due to different package vendor) Such warnings can get extremely confusing and annoying for users. Just several ones (some fonts and graphical packages not needed at server) marked as taboo because I was slightly over the disk capacity. As result, all dependencies were OK and "disk applet" shows that installation will take about 850MB and about 150MB will stay free + bootloader: GRUB installed at root partition installation started OK up to the mentioned popup. Attached tar.gz contains both logs from main system (in ramdisk) and /target one. One can see that md0 (mounted as new /) has only 10MB free instead of 150MB but my original idea (l_var was not mounted) is not correct, l_var contains OK data, one can mount it and - for example - ask rpm -qa and se installed packages. Interesting point is that I've found yast2-packages is NOT installed. Using YAST to detect legacy audio cards freezes the system. Another person who has an Inspiron 3200 reported (http://audacityteam.org/forum/thread/184) that the sound card works after the following commands: modprobe sound modprobe ad1848 insmod uart401 insmod cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=5 However, typing these commands doesn't enable sound for me on OpenSuse 10.2. I am attaching the dmesg below. I'd be happy to provide any other information, try out patches, or give developers SSH access to the affected computer. When selecting Suspend from the desktop, it says preparing to and then says resuming and gives an error box saying that suspend fails. When closing the lid, it will suspend, but when you open it back up, the system restores, but the screen's backlight stays off. Further, sometimes when it is just left running plugged into an AC outlet, the screen will blank, and then when trying to do something, the backlight will be off.
