I think that it has been even before the switch to gcc42. The strange thing is that there were no changes in gcc41 around that time... The problem was initially visible in various packages, e.g. jessie, gnu-crypto, and OpenOffice_org. The first two packages have already been compiled on machines with enough memory. OOo has not been built yet. I tried to exchange the needed jar files, glibc and gcc packages between the 10.2 and STABLE build environments. It started to eat the memory after I updated the gcc ones. If ound this very useful since both, favourites as well as history are shortcuts to the applications I use most often and hence should have the shortes way. Only if the application cannot be found in those two tabs, the user had to take the long way to the applications-tab. In build-service's KDE packages as well as 10.3 alpha the application-tab took the place of the history-tab. There are users who like this more than the original order, so it would be useful to make the order of the tabs more flexible. This can be done in a way that does not need any GUI and is consistent with kicker itself. If the user wants to re-arrange items on kicker itself, one can click on them with the middle mouse-button and move them. I moved my openSUSE 10.2 installation to the SATA disk, and all is fine except for this. The graphical menu has three problems: -The default selection with timeout does not work. The menu does not hang completely (I can make a selection and boot), but it never boots automatically. -The animated parts get stuck almost immediately. -If I press ESC to drop to text mode, there is a message dialog, and when that is dismissed, it just hangs. When the gfxmenu is disabled entirely, text mode properly boots the default selection with timeout, and the other two problems are irrelevant. So obviously that is a usable workaround. I tried re-installing grub, both by the command line and by YaST, neither helped. Moreover, the behavior exhibited by the 10.2 DVD is even worse. IIRC, it is completely unusable. Using YAST to detect legacy audio cards freezes the system. Another person who has an Inspiron 3200 reported (http://audacityteam.org/forum/thread/184) that the sound card works after the following commands: modprobe sound modprobe ad1848 insmod uart401 insmod cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=5 However, typing these commands doesn't enable sound for me on OpenSuse 10.2. I am attaching the dmesg below. I'd be happy to provide any other information, try out patches, or give developers SSH access to the affected computer. When selecting Suspend from the desktop, it says preparing to and then says resuming and gives an error box saying that suspend fails. When closing the lid, it will suspend, but when you open it back up, the system restores, but the screen's backlight stays off. Further, sometimes when it is just left running plugged into an AC outlet, the screen will blank, and then when trying to do something, the backlight will be off.
