Summary: Resume from suspend to disk fails after kernel upgrade
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: RC 1
Platform: i686
OS/Version: SuSE Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Basesystem
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening(a)forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: james(a)usr-local-bin.org

I upgraded to RC1 from the Factory tree. The new kernel image was added to the
GRUB menu, at the bottom of list although it was set, correctly, to be the
default. This is fine for a simple boot.
However, when I then suspended the laptop and booted it back up, it booted the
failsafe system. When I moved the new kernel image to the top of list
(changing no other settings), rebooted and then suspended again, it resumed
fine.

The version of ImageMagick included in openSUSE 10.2 has a problem with
converting image files to PDF. I've tested this e.g. with JPEG and TIFF images.
In both cases the convert command hangs and never came back until you about it.
As I use the pdf conversion of ImageMagick quite regularly I can say, that this
was running in the 6.2.5 Version included in SL 10.1. So this might be a bug
with the new version in 10.2. I also created a rpm for 10.2 from the latest
version 6.3.1 of ImageMagick inside the opensuse build service. Take a look at
http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/d7/openSUSE_10.2/ . This version
don't have the problem, so I would say only the version included in openSUSE
10.2 has this bug or is wrong packaged.

To suppress this warning assign a defined value to your variables.
To help you figure out what was undefined, perl tells you what operation
you used the undefined value in. Note, however, that perl optimizes your
program and the operation displayed in the warning may not necessarily
appear literally in your program. For example, "that $foo" is
usually optimized into "that " . $foo, and the warning will refer to
the concatenation (.) operator, even though there is no . in your
program.
the default= setting for lilo.conf did not work
I set the linux section manually
I added boot=/dev/sda2 manually in the config file editor.

Summary: Improvement for LONGTMP - preserve certain (user's?)

For the "normal" /tmp directory, YAST provides settings like TMP_DIRS_TO_CLEAR
and OWNER_TO_KEEP_IN_TMP.
For the LONGTMP-directory (presumably this could be /var/tmp), there is no such
fine tuning possible, like e.g. "OWNER_TO_KEEP_IN_LONGTMP".
However, this drawer is completely filled up on my computer, I cannot even
summarily delete files as bash complains about a too long argument. Morever,
there are some files in this drawer I don't want to be deleted, especially the
KDE cache for my user ID (Favicons and so on).
I would like to have some setting to selectively clean the LONGTMP, too. So
that e.g. I could exempt my user name from a routine clean sweep.

Summary: More clear default gateway DHCP configuration
Product: SUSE Linux 10.1
Version: Final
Platform: i686
OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1
Status: NEW
Severity: Enhancement
Priority: P5 - None
Component: YaST2
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening(a)forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: cmorve69(a)yahoo.es
QAContact: jsrain(a)novell.com
I must say that I do not use DHCP myself. But looking in a problem with another
guy I saw this:
- I understand that the default gateway can be set by DHCP
- Since in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp I have by default
'DHCLIENT_SET_DEFAULT_ROUTE="yes"' I suppose that Suse really uses the default
gateway that the server sets.
- When you use DHCP, in the DNS YaST2 module you have the options "Change
Hostname via DHCP" and "Update Name Servers and Search List via DHCP"
- When you use DHCP, in the routing YaST2 module you can set the default
gateway bbut there isn't any "Update Default Gateway via DHCP" option.
So the problem is that the lack of an "Update Default Gateway via DHCP" option
when there is the equivalent for DNS is confusing. What an user should think?
That default gateway can't be set via DHCP? If he knows is possible he probably
will think that Suse isn't able to do it. What if the user doesn't wants to set
the default gateway via DHCP but wants to set via DHCP the other network
parameters? He will need to modify sysconfig?

Summary: totem doesn't want to play Audio CDs

totem doesn't want to play Audio CDs. Strictly speaking, it's a video player
and not an audio player, but I *think* this worked in the past.
It has a menu entry labeled "Movie -> Play Disc 'CD-RW/DVD±RW Drive'", which
is selectable, but useless as long as the drive is empty.
As soon as an Audio CD is inserted into the drive, the menu entry turns into
"Play Disc 'Audio Disc'", but becomes greyed out. So the Audio CD cannot be
played.
