Hello community We would like to have a simple compiz settings manager to be a default on openSUSE 11, simple-ccsm is what is developed by the upstream(Compiz Fusion) developer Marex. Please check it out and give your feedback and usability perspective. It is currently packaged in experimental git repo and installs along with Compiz Fusion packages via compiz-fusion-git 1-click install: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/cyberorg/openSUSE_10.3/comp… You may have to remove regular compiz if you have it installed. This was also the conclusion drawn by our sysadmins and one of our designers. printer module redesign

Hi everyone, as some of you may know it is now almost a year since we first try to think (again) about a redesign of the printer module. And now we are ready to present you a first release candidate :-) You find it on: http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Development/Printer_Enhancement#Release_Candida… I am very happy with it as it cleans up the kerfuffle the current module shows at present: * the depth of workflow was reduced from 9 levels to 3 * overall number of screens was reduced from over 30 to 10 * technical short wording was replaced by explanatory wording, which is easy to comprehend * dialog layout which also confused expert users was replaced by simple, meaningful layout (or to put it into more poetic words: the user was released from his dungeon :-)) At this point I would like to thank: * Michal Zugec for putting the UI redesign on the agenda (and especially in autumn when everyone already forgot about it) * Johannes Meixner for his endless time, patience and comments * everyone on the lists for their comments and participation I am looking forward to your comments! Hi, I made some thoughts about the printer module. The results can be shown on the wiki page, which had to be moved to another location (due to some reorganizational stuff which I do not have many clues off :-)). The printer module redesign stuff is now available on: http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Development/Printer_Enhancement I tried to avoid the term "queue" as I got some feedback on the ux-list and in personal discussions and benchmarking, that this term is not familiar to many users. For the sake of consistency with other modules I also sacrificed Johannes' sentences with included buttons, which I personally like a lot. The CUPS settings also became a more semantic description. I used the settings and wording of the CUPS browser UI and gave the user the possibility to make detailed settings for some entries. Open questions: * Did I understand this correctly: I can either use default settings of the remote CUPS server (which means the default queue of the remote computer) or do I choose another queue Missing stuff: * select default queue (maybe this will be covered by a button at the right bottom side of the local queue list) * firewall settings (which I would put into the check boxes of the local CUPS settings * CUPS USB device settings (big question mark for me: do we really need that? In case we do, it can become another check box in the local CUPS settings Did I miss anything else? What do you think about these mockups?
