Well I did download, not just the distribution DVD but also the two LiveCDs. I just popped the KDE LiveCD into an old laptop ... I took a VERY, VERY long time to boot. I went of, made coffee, had a sandwich and came back and it was still booting. I did a ctl-alt-F1 and logged in as root (which took a long time), did a 'ps -ef', (which also took a long time) and it seems the KDE startup was compiling something. Eh? Trying the Gnome LiveCD now ... Even simple things like the USB scan and mounting the liveCD seem to take an excessive amount of time. -- "All information stored electronically has value and shall be protected commensurate with its value." My computer has taken the same path until 11.1 without problems. The upgrade to 11.2 will probably also happen on the weekend and I don't expect problems. I am a KDE user and that was not a problem. Per http://en.opensuse.org/Upgrade the high level steps are: prep repos refresh repos install / upgrade zypper to the 11.2 version (zypper in zypper) perform upgrade (zypper dup) So as long as 10.3 has basic zypper function I think you should be able to follow the upgrade process. Fred, I am as passionate about oS as you are, and have been so since I first came across it back when it was still the good, old, solid *German* ("But *don't* mention the War!" - Basil Fawlty) product called SuSE. And I've said many a word about its downs and up over the years. However, what you stated above is too emotional. There is nothing *forcing* you to give your client openSUSE. *You* want them to use oS, and I don't blame you - I would too. But you may just as well put Kubuntu/Ubuntu on their systems in stead of the "MickeyMouse" stuff which they have been mesmerised into using for the past many years. (I installed XP on the system the other day on the new HDs for one reason only: I made a *big* mistake in buying a good 35mm slide-capable CANON scanner - for a *very* good price - a little while back, but it is not supported under Linux; I need the scanner, hence the installation of XP. If not for this there would be not be single trace of that MS crap on this computer.) openSUSE, and other distros, no doubt are having hassles. But take yourself back some years and compare 'the now' with 'the then'. Have things got better, or worse? What I think is the real problem here is that we, as enthusiastic supporters of oS, and Linux, are expecting great things from people who code the oS - but for one reason or another, they cannot deliver to meet our expectations. I have a tagline which states, "The first myth of management is that it exists" :-) . Patrick......once again, we who are USED to openSUSE have to look way beyond the end of our noses! I can build the driver....that is NOT the point! The point is that it SHOULD be available via Yast, without having to manually add a site......PERIOD! Reviewers, those coming from other distros. and newbies to Linux are going to "barf" on this one. The site SHOULD have been added, as well as the ATI site, in the Community Repos. as per 11.1. How many MickySoft users do you think will know how to add an ftp address into Yast? Right......NOT many. The fist stated mission of the devs. for 11.2 was the easiest disto. to install and use......close to word for word. NOT have these 2 repositories EASILY available. Now, for the good stuff......most everything is great with 11.2.....except for networkmanager (wifi) and a broken hplip. I haven't noted anything else. Fred -- A REVOLUTIONARY IDEA! The repos went Gold Master a couple days ago, so the zypper dup / wagon upgrade method has been doable for a couple days now.
Then, why don't we have a nvidia site to upgrade drivers?
The repo for 11.2 is at http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.2 what is your problem? Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't have a problem. I had a problem yesterday, when I didn't know where to download 11.2. Note that all the material quoted above about zypper, nvidia, and drivers has nothing at all to do with me, but is riding on my simple question.

Thanks, Ken. I simply added it via Yast. It SHOULD have been an option during the install, or after, to add it. Newbies won't know how to add the nVidia nor ATI sites. Fred -- A REVOLUTIONARY IDEA! Stefan Dirsch, probably quite rightly, closed it again as invalid due to the correct driver being selected, so it probably _is_ an nvidia problem. I have also tried installing the nvidia provided driver, but it still fails. Have now reported it to nvidia. /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (13.0°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes. wget has been downloading for about an hour, and talks about finishing in another five. I'll make a note of the location, so I'll know where to start looking next time arround. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
