Well I did download, not just the distribution DVD but also the two LiveCDs. I just popped the KDE LiveCD into an old laptop ... I took a VERY, VERY long time to boot. I went of, made coffee, had a sandwich and came back and it was still booting. I did a ctl-alt-F1 and logged in as root (which took a long time), did a 'ps -ef', (which also took a long time) and it seems the KDE startup was compiling something. Eh? Trying the Gnome LiveCD now ... Even simple things like the USB scan and mounting the liveCD seem to take an excessive amount of time. -- "All information stored electronically has value and shall be protected commensurate with its value."
