I have hacked a couple of methods to do this, (ip aliasing at boot) but I would like to know what the preferred location and syntax is to get ip aliasing set up at boot. Not that I plan to reboot, but.. Thanks ahead. -- Michael H. No need to reboot. You can set up additional IP aliases for one network device with YaST. Just add a new interface eth0:0 and configure it as usual... My RedBook has a chapter on doing things like this using YaST :) Bye, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer 90443 Nuernberg, Germany -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Wait, just a minute; what's wrong with being spoon-fed? Using YaST, it takes approximately 5 minutes to have a fully functional IPMasq/Firewall up after the system boots. Writing, debugging, and finalizing a hand-written script would take at least that long, assuming that you know what the individual tools are (vi, echo, /proc/net, IPChains, init), and *exactly* how to use them. Take one ready-for-retirement P5 class machine and one SuSE 6.3 installation set, add the DMZ sofware installation. Spice it up just a pinch with the harden_suse PERL script and bbfirewall v2, and let your security troubles fade away. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
